Overview:
The Medical Assistant is an integral member of the patient care team, participating in the care of patients of all ages in the Faculty Practice. The Medical Assistant should have excellent communication skills, a positive attitude and a commitment to providing the best level of medical care. The ability to work with others is essential as we will be working closely with and sharing resources with the Touro College of Dental Medicine and New York Medical College’s Clinical Trials Unit.
Responsibilities:
- Greets patients and maintains patient flow
- Obtains and records vital signs and medical information
- Performs in office testing: EKG, spirometry, audiometry, vision, point of care labs
- Phlebotomy, specimen preparation and drop off to lab box
- Prepares treatment rooms for exams, keeping neat and clean
- Assists physician with procedures or visits as needed
- Cleans and sterilizes instruments, disposes of contaminated supplies, manages medical waste
- Sets up medical lab equipment and runs quality control measures
- Schedules appointments for patients, contacts medical facilities to schedule tests for patient, sends requests, completes prior authorizations
- Obtains and enters patient records or results into EMR
- Stocks and orders supplies
- Answers telephones, directs calls, takes phone messages, reviews voicemail and FHC email
- Monitors and records vaccine refrigerator and freezer temperatures
- Manages vaccine inventory
- Collects patient payments, updates record system, sends invoices for direct-pay patients
- Verifies insurance status and patient responsibility
- Data entry into EMR, vaccine and laboratory portals
- Clerical duties such as making copies, completing paperwork
- Other tasks as needed or as assigned by the Administrator or Medical Director
Qualifications:
Education requirement: HS Diploma or GED required, Medical Assistant training course.
License/Certification: MA or RMA certification.
Technical/computer skills:
- Strong communication ability both in person and on telephone, computer proficiency, ability to perform electrocardiograms and phlebotomy.
- Proficiency in Spanish is highly desired.
Prior experience: 1-2 years in a medical practice setting.
Physical demands: Standing (up to an hour continuously), walking and sitting for up to 4 hours, must be able to help patients on and off exam table and scale, must be able to lift 20 lbs, must be able to reach overhead, manual dexterity.
Environmental demands: Must comply with standards for use of personal protective equipment, requires fitting for N95 respirator, hand hygiene, potential exposure to sharps.

USD $25.26/Hr.
