Reynolds is one of the largest community colleges in Virginia and serves Virginia's capital city and five nearby counties. Annually, our four campus sites serve approximately 13,000 credit students and provide training for 7,400 students through the Community College Workforce Alliance. The Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) Program at Reynolds Community College is seeking a qualified and motivated faculty member to provide instruction in clinical microbiology and related laboratory science disciplines. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching mainly microbiology didactic and laboratory courses, participating in curriculum development and assessment activities, and supporting student success within a NAACLS-accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program. In addition to microbiology instruction, the faculty member may be assigned to teach other areas of the MLT curriculum based on program needs and individual expertise, laboratory instructions in including urinalysis/body fluids, immunology/serology, clinical chemistry and molecular diagnostics.

The ideal candidate will possess substantial experience working in a clinical laboratory core laboratory environment and demonstrate expertise in laboratory testing, quality assurance, laboratory operations, and regulatory compliance.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

KSA's/Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, Microbiology, or a closely related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Current ASCP Board of Certification credentials as MLS, M(ASCP), MT, MLT, or equivalent certification.
  • Minimum of three years of recent clinical laboratory experience.
  • Demonstrated expertise in clinical microbiology.
  • Experience working in a hospital laboratory setting.
  • Ability to teach both didactic and laboratory courses.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Additional Considerations

  • Master's degree in medical laboratory science, Microbiology, Education, or a related field.
  • Teaching experience in a community college, university, or accredited laboratory science program.
  • Experience with NAACLS-accredited programs.
  • Experience with laboratory automation, molecular diagnostic methods, and quality management systems.
  • Additional expertise in one or more laboratory disciplines, including clinical chemistry, immunology/serology, molecular diagnostics, urinalysis/body fluids, or laboratory operations.
  • Experience with online and hybrid course delivery.
