Blackfeet Community Hospital is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to perform diagnostic laboratory testing and specimen analysis that support patient diagnosis, treatment, and disease prevention. The ideal candidate will have experience working in a clinical laboratory environment and demonstrate proficiency in laboratory procedures, quality assurance, and regulatory compliance.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory testing in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Microbiology, Immunology, and Blood Bank departments.
  • Collect, process, prepare, and analyze patient specimens according to established laboratory protocols.
  • Operate, calibrate, troubleshoot, and maintain laboratory instruments and equipment.
  • Verify and accurately document test results in the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Maintain quality control and quality assurance standards to ensure accurate and reliable testing outcomes.
  • Recognize abnormal test results and promptly notify appropriate healthcare personnel.
  • Follow infection control, laboratory safety, and hazardous material handling procedures.
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, OSHA, HIPAA, and facility regulations.
  • Assist with inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining adequate stock levels.
  • Participate in laboratory inspections, proficiency testing, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to support patient care.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology or related laboratory science program.
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program.
  • Current Medical Laboratory Technician certification through ASCP, AMT, or equivalent preferred.
  • Minimum one (1) year of recent clinical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of laboratory testing methodologies, quality control procedures, and laboratory instrumentation.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in rural, tribal, Indian Health Service (Client), or community healthcare facilities.
  • Phlebotomy experience.
  • Experience with electronic medical record systems and laboratory information systems.
