Summary:
The MLS Technical Manager supervises medical lab personnel, develops SOPs, and ensures high-quality diagnostic and research testing using microbiological, serological, and molecular methods. Oversees laboratory operations related to clinical and research diagnostic testing involving a wide range of biological threat samples.
Responsibilities:Essential Job Functions:
- Oversee daily lab operations and clinical assay implementation.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory standards (CLIA, CAP, etc.).
- Train staff and review QA/QC records.
- Troubleshoot lab instrumentation and methodologies.
- Support R&D efforts with diagnostic assay development.
- Performs laboratory procedures, testing, research activities, and other tasks in fields such as aerobiology, biochemistry, immunology, microbiology, virology, bacteriology, molecular or cell biology, veterinary medicine, toxicology, or other scientific discipline.
- Plans and accomplish goals, participates in or leading development of research work plans, proposals, budgets, and agreements.
- May function as a study Lead Investigator.
- Independently reads, understands, and executes techniques, procedures, and plans to meet requirements of quality standards, national standards of research technical accuracy, other relevant written guidelines, and timelines prescribed by the research plan and based on professional judgment.
- Records all laboratory procedures and research project data, data analyses, and analytical conclusions of analyses in accordance with applicable regulations and procedures.
- Performs a variety of scientific and administrative tasks. Provides training and mentorship to junior staff.
- May participate in support of laboratory biosafety requirements and laboratory space management, in coordination with director, Investigators, or other relevant staff.
Necessary Skills and Knowledge:
- Skilled in microbiological and molecular diagnostic techniques.
- Leadership and training capabilities.
- Quality management and regulatory knowledge.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Specialized skills may be required, including but not limited to, aerobiology, clinical pathology, electron or confocal microscopy, histopathology, quality assurance, and good laboratory practice.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory science, microbiology, or equivalent.
- 5+ years in clinical or diagnostic laboratory settings.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance eligibility, with no access to classified information, is required.
- Enroll in the Personnel Reliability Program (PRP), if required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- ACTIVE SECRET is preferred
- Certification as MLS (ASCP) preferred.
Pay and Benefits
The salary range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 annually.
