Job Title: Medical Lab Scientist

Duration: 8+ months of Contract with possible extension
2nd Shift: Mon-Fri (1:30 pm – 9:30 pm) EST
Pay Rate: $40.00/hr on W2
 
Overview:
The Medical Laboratory Scientist is responsible for performing a variety of laboratory tests to assist in the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease. This role ensures accurate specimen handling, analysis, and reporting in compliance with all regulatory standards, including CLIA, HIPAA, and OSHA guidelines.
 
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform specimen handling, processing, and testing according to established laboratory procedures and standard operating protocols (SOPs).
  • Analyze specimens and accurately review, interpret, and release test results.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of all testing, quality control, calibrations, and maintenance activities.
  • Ensure all proficiency testing samples are processed in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Adhere to quality control and assurance policies, documenting any corrective actions when test systems deviate from acceptable performance standards.
  • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve issues that may impact test performance or promptly notify the supervisor or senior technologist.
  • Report STAT and critical results in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Maintain reagent and test kit inventory, ensuring all materials are properly labeled and tracked with received, opened, and expiration dates.
  • Participate in ongoing training, continuing education, and departmental meetings.
  • Comply with all safety regulations, participate in safety training, and assist during regulatory inspections.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the laboratory supervisor.
 
Required Knowledge and Skills:
  • Strong understanding of core laboratory testing principles and methodologies.
  • Proficiency with laboratory information systems (LIS) and general computer applications.
  • Knowledge of quality control (QC), quality assurance (QA), and laboratory safety procedures.
  • Ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment.
 
Education and Certification:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Technology preferred; or Bachelor’s/Associate’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, or a related Laboratory Science field.
  • Must provide an original, detailed transcript for U.S.-educated candidates.
  • Certification or eligibility for certification as a Medical Technologist (MT) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) by ASCP or AMT required.
