Position Summary: The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of routine and complex laboratory procedures using standard and specialized techniques, instrumentation, and equipment on a wide variety of biological specimens to assist the provider in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. Department Summary: The Laboratory provides clinical testing in the areas of hematology, coagulation, immunohematology urinalysis, chemistry and toxicology. Primary testing clients include the Emergency Department and Aultman Health System outpatients and Aultman Laboratory Services Clients. This highly automated clinical laboratory offers an extensive test menu. Job Qualifications: Bachelor of Science degree, including twelve-month training in an approved program for Medical Laboratory Science, with certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist by an approved certifying agency or Bachelor of Science degree with MLT certification and/or necessary experience to be designated as a registry eligible MLS. Willingness and ability to fill the CLIA role of Technical Consultant, Technical Supervisor, and General Supervisor as defined by CAP. Successfully operates instrumentation in accordance with laboratory policies and procedures. Performs testing and quality control using approved laboratory procedures and instrumentation. Exercise professional judgment to recognize, prioritize and facilitate varying test requests and workload in an efficient manner. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and department meetings as required. Perform instrument/equipment maintenance according to department guidelines and manufacturers specifications. Performs blood collection by venipuncture and micro-collection techniques. Mentor students and new employees by providing a positive experiential learning environment. Is aware of and adheres to regulatory guidelines. Assist Technical Specialist and Assistant Manager with duties as assigned. Cross training to all areas in the department is required. This unit requires 24/7 coverage. Shifts are variable to volume of department. Rotation as needed. Work weekends and holidays as assigned.
