Instrument Test Technician III – San Diego, CA

Pay Rate: $35.00 – $40.00/hour

SCHEDULE & DETAILS

  • 40 hours/week (Preferred: 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, flexible)
  • Onsite role
  • Contract position with potential for extension
  • Occasional after-hours, weekend, and holiday support may be required

JOB SUMMARY
The Instrumentation Technician III provides on-site support for installation, calibration, validation, maintenance, and repair of diagnostic and laboratory equipment. This role supports internal operations and ensures compliance with ISO standards and documentation practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Install, calibrate, maintain, and repair laboratory instrumentation with minimal supervision
  • Perform equipment qualification and validation activities
  • Maintain accurate documentation in compliance with cGDP standards
  • Complete service and administrative documentation in a timely manner
  • Troubleshoot and report technical and quality issues to management
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives and team efficiency efforts
  • Provide customer-focused support to internal stakeholders
  • Manage workload, priorities, and scheduling effectively

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • 5–7+ years of hands-on instrumentation and calibration experience
  • Minimum 7 years of experience servicing laboratory equipment and instrumentation
  • Strong troubleshooting skills in complex electronics
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working with ISO standards (ISO 9001, 10012, 17025, or 13485)
  • Ability to read schematics and use electronic test equipment
  • Strong understanding of calibration principles, loop checking, and maintenance processes
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Military TMDE/PMEL experience
  • Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Electronics, Computer Engineering, or Biomedical Engineering
  • Experience with medical devices and laboratory equipment
  • Knowledge of PC systems, software, LIS, networking, and databases
  • Experience with refrigeration equipment calibration and repair

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Lift up to 30 lbs frequently and up to 70 lbs occasionally
  • Push/pull up to 100 lbs
  • Ability to stand, bend, and stoop for extended periods (up to 10 hours)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Exposure to moderate noise levels
  • Required use of PPE (safety glasses, gloves, safety shoes)

  • Complete safety inspections/preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Receive medical equipment and supplies
  • Cleaning and disinfecting of medical rental equipment
  • Delivering and setting up respiratory medical equipment
  • Providing professional home medical equipment products and services
  • Check and select ordered medical equipment and supplies
  • Lead and manage used medical equipment auction services
  • Disinfect, and functionally check durable medical equipment
  • Perform functional testing on various types of medical equipment
  • Delivering medical equipment to patients' homes and instructing on how to use the equipment
  • Travel locally to partner medical facilities and collect data about medical equipment inventory information
  • Manage the dispatch of equipment
  • Set up equipment and instruct patients on the basic use of equipment
  • Unload durable medical and infusion equipment onto delivery vehicle
  • Ensuring cleanliness of new equipment
  • Maintain equipment and supply inventory
