Medical Director (Part Time)

Reporting to, and working in collaboration with, the Chief Clinical Officer, the Medical Director serves as the clinical and administrative leader of psychiatric and medical services for the organization. The Medical Director is part of the agency ELT (Executive Leadership Team), and participates in associated projects and activities. This key executive role ensures the delivery of high-quality, ethical, and evidence-based behavioral healthcare in alignment with the organization's nonprofit mission, as well as all relevant state, federal, and accreditation standards across the organization. The Medical Director supervises the Director of Nursing, and provides oversight and consultation to agency physicians, nurse practitioners, and nurses, assuring standardized performance expectations and adherence to work processes. The Medical Director will integrate medical and psychiatric components into a holistic service delivery model.

Given the history and size of Pacific Clinics, there are two Medical Director positions. One positioned for NCIE (Northern California and Inland Empire) and the other for LASC (Los Angeles South Coast) Regions, with coordination between the Medical Directors playing a pivotal role in the position.

Compensation We Offer  
Initial compensation for this Part-Time position ranges from $220,000 to $240,000 annually; depending on experience, location, and internal equity considerations.

I Clinical Leadership & Oversight:

• Executive Strategic Planning: Provide consultation to the Executive Leadership Team regarding current best practice in psychiatry, as well as input regarding pertinent opportunities and innovations in clinical treatment delivery, including integrated care models.
• Clinical Program Direction: Provide comprehensive oversight and clinical guidance for all psychiatric and medical health services, including outpatient, crisis, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS), and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) programs.
• Staff Consultation: Serve as the final medical authority and clinical consultant for complex patient cases, risk management issues, and emergency evaluations.
• Policy & Procedure: Develop, implement, and routinely review clinical protocols, policies, and procedures related to patient care, medication prescribing, psychopharmacology, medical triage, nursing and professional conduct.

II Administrative & Management:

• Staff Supervision & Mentorship: Recruit, hire, supervise, and mentor the organization’s team of psychiatrists, nurse practitioners, nurses, psychiatric technicians, and medical support staff. Establish a structure for regular clinical supervision and/or peer review.
• Quality & Compliance: Support continuous Quality Improvement (QI) and Utilization Review (UR) activities for medical services. Ensure full compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory bodies, as well as relevant accreditation standards.
• Budget & Resources: Collaborate with the COO, CCO, and CFO on budget planning for the medical department, ensuring efficient resource utilization and productivity targets are met without compromising quality of care.
• Strategic Planning: Advise the CCO on current medical trends, service gaps, and opportunities for program expansion and evidence-based practice adoption.

III Stakeholder Engagement & Advocacy:

• Community Liaison: In conjunction with Communications Department, represent the organization's medical perspective to external stakeholders, including community partners, governmental agencies, and professional medical societies.
• Interdisciplinary Collaboration: Foster a cohesive, collaborative environment among the medical team, clinicians, case managers, and administrative staff to ensure truly integrated, person-centered care.

Required Qualifications:

• Education: Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) degree from an accredited medical school.
• Residency: Successful completion of an accredited Psychiatry Residency Program.
• Licensure: Current, unrestricted license to practice medicine and prescribe controlled substances in the State of California
• Board Certification: Board Certified or Board Eligible in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN).
• Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible clinical leadership and management experience, preferably within a community behavioral health or human services setting.
