Position Summary

Live Well Behavioral Health is seeking a Part-Time Medical Director to provide strategic medical oversight and clinical leadership for its behavioral health and addiction treatment programs in Louisiana. This is a limited-hours, part-time position ideal for a physician seeking a meaningful leadership role with flexibility. The Medical Director ensures that all medical services meet the highest standards of quality, compliance, and ethical care in accordance with Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) and BHSP regulations.

Please Note: In accordance with Louisiana BHSP regulations, the Medical Director must hold a current, unrestricted license to practice medicine in the state of Louisiana. Per state definition, on-call staff must be immediately available for telephone consultation and able to be on-site within less than one hour. Candidates who cannot meet this proximity requirement are not eligible for this role. This position cannot be performed fully remotely.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide medical oversight and leadership for all clinical programs, ensuring adherence to evidence-based addiction and behavioral health treatment standards
  • Develop, review, and approve clinical and medical protocols, including medication-assisted treatment (MAT) and detoxification procedures
  • Be on-site as needed for the management of psychiatric and medical needs of clients across applicable levels of care
  • Maintain on-call availability 24 hours per day, seven days per week, in compliance with Louisiana staffing requirements for Mental Health PHP, Mental Health IOP, and ASAM Level II.1 (Intensive Outpatient) programs
  • Remain within one hour of the facility at all times to fulfill on-duty obligations when on call, per Louisiana regulatory definition
  • Offer consultative support to clinical and prescribing staff on complex medical and pharmacological issues
  • Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and accreditation standards, including DEA, HIPAA, and Louisiana Department of Health regulations
  • Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings and clinical case reviews as needed
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to promote clinical excellence, safety, and quality improvement
  • Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to medical and behavioral health personnel

Requirements

Requirements

  • Doctor of Medicine (MD) with a current, unrestricted license to practice in the state of Louisiana (required)
  • Must meet one of the following Louisiana Department of Health Medical Director qualifications:
    • Is a licensed addiction specialist (board certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with a subspecialty in addiction psychiatry, or certified by the American Board of Preventive Medicine or the American Osteopathic Association); or
    • Is board-eligible or board-certified, has a minimum of two years of qualifying experience in treating addictive disorders, and maintains a consulting relationship with an addiction specialist
  • Minimum of two years of qualifying experience in treating psychiatric or addictive disorders, per Louisiana BHSP core staffing standards
  • Must reside within one hour of the facility to fulfill on-call and on-site availability requirements per Louisiana BHSP regulations
  • Minimum of 5 years of clinical experience in addiction medicine, psychiatry, or behavioral health
  • Proven ability to lead and advise within a multidisciplinary treatment environment
  • Proficiency in electronic health records and telehealth platforms
  • Strong communication, collaboration, and ethical decision-making skills

Schedule and Compensation

  • Limited part-time hours (estimated 4-8 hours per week)
  • On-call availability required 24 hours per day, seven days per week, per Louisiana staffing requirements for PHP, IOP, and ASAM Level II.1 programs
  • Must be able to be on-site within one hour when called to duty
  • Hourly Range: $150 to $250 per hour, commensurate with experience
