A highly regarded national law firm is seeking a Jr. Patent Associate to join its expanding Intellectual Property practice.

This is an outstanding opportunity for an early-career patent attorney who enjoys working directly with inventors on innovative mechanical technologies, particularly medical devices. The successful candidate will join a collaborative team handling sophisticated U.S. and international patent matters for companies developing next-generation engineering and life sciences technologies.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and prosecute U.S. and international patent applications.
  • Collaborate directly with inventors, engineers, scientists, and in-house counsel.
  • Develop strategic patent portfolios for innovative engineering and medical technology clients.
  • Prepare responses to USPTO Office Actions and advise clients throughout the patent prosecution process.
  • Assist with patentability, validity, infringement, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
  • Support intellectual property due diligence, licensing transactions, and related IP matters.
  • Work closely with experienced patent attorneys on sophisticated domestic and international patent portfolios.

Requirements


  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • Registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
  • Active admission to at least one U.S. state bar (or eligibility for admission).
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
  • Advanced technical degree is a plus.
  • Approximately 1–3 years of patent preparation and prosecution experience as a Patent Agent or Patent Attorney.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and prosecuting patent applications involving mechanical technologies.
  • Ability to support chemical engineering and materials science matters as client needs require.
  • Strong academic credentials with outstanding analytical, writing, and communication skills.

    • Expected compensation:Approximately $175,000–$255,000, depending on experience, qualifications, geographic location, and other job-related factors.
