Summary

The main function of a Medical Device Engineer is to provide technical expertise to the design and development of new invasive and noninvasive medical device product(s).
A typical Medical Device Engineer investigates/evaluates existing technology and advises Research & Development, Regulatory Affairs, and Reliability Engineering to ensure appropriate process development under the best possible conditions.
Job Responsibilities
  • Plan and organize meetings for the cross-functional review of readiness to conduct clinical evaluations of the technology/product.
  • Lead the collaboration between technology/product leads and Clinical Affairs to determine the appropriate in-vivo evaluation methodology and metrics for the technology/product.
  • Design and implement new methodologies, materials, machines, processes, or products.
  • Develop new concepts from initial design through market release.
  • Conduct feasibility studies of designs to determine their ability to function as intended.
  • Maintain detailed documentation throughout all phases of research and development.
  • Coordinate activities with outside suppliers and consultants to ensure the delivery of supplies or services needed to meet scheduled timelines.
  • Train Clinical Affairs staff, as needed, on investigational technologies and/or tools.
  • Develop and release training materials, as needed.
  • Summarize device issues experienced with investigational products and drive testing of the used systems to determine and document the root cause, as needed.
  • Support clinical and business process improvements through data analysis, research on best practices, process recommendations, and performance management and control.

Required Skills
  • Ability to work hands-on in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to run self-directed projects, manage timelines, and execute projects in an R&D environment with minimal direct supervision.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, along with strong interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency with experimental design and statistical analysis.

Education & Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 2–4 years of relevant experience required.


Disqualifiers / Resume Screening Criteria
  • No hands-on experience testing in a laboratory.
Required Testing Experience
  • Hands-on experience running tests on instruments or diagnostic assays in a wet lab or analytical laboratory.
