POSITION AVAILABLE: Medical Careers Instructor and Nursing Assistant (Part-time)
POSITION LOCATION: Southwest West Central Service Cooperative (SWWC) with placement in Tracy, MN.
POSITION SUMMARY: The Medical Careers Instructor and Nursing Assistant provides high school students with rigorous, hands-on instruction and career exploration opportunities in a wide range of medical and healthcare fields. This position is designed to prepare students for successful transition to post-secondary education, industry certification, internships, and entry-level employment within the healthcare sector. The instructor integrates academic knowledge, technical skill attainment, employability skills, and career exploration through classroom instruction, laboratory experiences, and work-based learning opportunities. The role emphasizes strong partnerships with healthcare organizations and a student-centered, career-focused learning environment.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Deliver engaging, rigorous, and hands-on instruction that is aligned to Minnesota Health Science Career Cluster standards, approved program outcomes, and industry expectations; Teach introductory medical careers coursework and nursing assistant (CNA) curriculum in accordance with state requirements; Develop, revise, and implement curriculum in collaboration with advisory committees and industry partners; Deliver instruction using a hybrid model (on-site lab/classroom and community-based experiences); Integrate academic standards, employability skills, professionalism, ethics, and workplace readiness into all instructional activities; Support clearly defined healthcare career pathways leading to postsecondary education, credentialing, or employment; Prepare students for industry-recognized credentials where applicable (e.g., Nursing Assistant); Support student participation in career exploration, dual credit options, certifications, internships, and work-based learning experiences; Establish and maintain strong relationships with local and regional healthcare and medical organizations; Coordinate guest speakers, industry tours, job shadowing, and clinical or internship experiences; Conduct site visits and collaborate with employers to ensure alignment between instruction and workforce expectations; Demonstrate evidence of hands-on learning through labs, simulations, projects, capstone events, and competitions; Assess and evaluate student learning using multiple measures aligned to technical skill development, career exploration and concentration, and college and career readiness outcomes; Maintain accurate records related to instruction, student progress, and program requirements as required by the Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) and Minnesota Department of Education (MDE); Provide positive public relations and effective communication with students, families, member districts, staff, and community partners; Participate in required professional development to stay current with healthcare trends, instructional strategies, and industry standards; Provides good public relations and customer service with member districts, staff, parents, and the general public; Follows all policies and regulations; Regular and prompt attendance is essential; Performs other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: Minnesota RN with a minimum of two years of licensed nursing experience in the US as evidenced by screenshot from Minnesota Board of Nursing website; At least one year in the provision of long-term care facility services in the US as evidenced by licensed nursing experience resume. Examples of long-term care facility services are employment in a nursing home or assisted living facility. Home health experience providing care in private homes only is not included. Total licensed nursing experience can be as an LPN but must currently be a RN.
Bachelor's Degree and Valid driver's license are required. MN Medical Careers teaching license and MN teaching licensure from the Department of Education is preferred. Applicant must have a passion for working with high school age students, a background in the medical and healthcare field, strong technology skills, the ability to establish community partnerships, and the creativity to deliver the course so it is highly engaging for students. Preferred: Experience working in a medical or healthcare setting; Experience teaching or working with secondary students; Previous experience in career and technical education or work-based learning programs.
CONTRACT/SALARY: Part-time position for the 2026-2027 school year; working approximately 60 days. Beginning salary dependent upon education, qualifications, and experience.
