Medical Assistant

Department/Location: Urgent Care - 1651 E. 29th St., Muncie

Reports To: Urgent Care Clinical Coordinator and Practice Manager

Classification: Non-Exempt | Full Time

Requires: Medical assistant certification or at least one year work experience in healthcare

Schedule: 2 - 12 hour shifts and 2 - 8 hour shifts, holidays and weekends are required

Open Door Health Services is seeking a full-time Medical Assistant at our Urgent Care location in Muncie, Indiana.

Overview

As an Open Door Medical Assistant, you will be part of a supportive, interdisciplinary team providing high-quality, compassionate care to individuals and families. Medical assistants perform a variety of patient care activities to support and assist physicians, nurse practitioners, and other medical staff. No clinical experience is necessary if you are certified by an accredited medical assistant program.

As a Federally Qualified Health Center, Open Door Health Services provides comprehensive primary, urgent, preventive, and select specialty services and social support programs for individuals and families, regardless of their ability to pay. This position is located at 1651 E. 29th St. in Muncie.

Roles & Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Prepare the patient for the provider by getting vital signs and the patient's primary complaint. You may also conduct additional testing and screenings (ex. UA dipstick, glucose reading, pregnancy testing, vision and hearing)
  • Brief provider on patient's data and status
  • Administer prescribed medications, immunizations and treatments as ordered
  • Assist in screening telephone calls for referrals, lab results and prescription refills
  • Perform quality checks and sterilize, clean, and stock exam rooms

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent. MA certification preferred
  • At least one year of work experience in healthcare clinic/office if not certified
  • CPR & first aid certification

Physical and Environmental Requirements

  • Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to clinic environment.
  • Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range or use of approved adaptive equipment.
  • Requires standing, walking or sitting for long periods of time. Occasional bending, stretching or lifting up to 40 pounds.
