Do you love working with patients and want to broaden your experience in the front office? If so, our this role could be the perfect fit for you! We're seeking a casual Medical Assistant/Patient Service Coordinator to help support our West Mifflin medical oncology practice.

Applicants will be placed in the appropriate job title and salary based on their individual experience and education.

This position will be utilized in a dual capacity; at times the staff member will be asked to function like a Medical Assistant, rooming and triaging patients, stocking supplies, cleaning rooms, etc. At other times, this staff member will be asked to function in the business office where they will answer phones, schedule patients, check-in and check-out patients, and other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities:

  • Check schedules and organize patient flow. Accompany patients to the exam/procedure room. Assist patients as needed with walking, transfers, dressing, collecting specimens, preparing for exams, etc. Collect patient information/history; take vitals, perform screenings per provider guidelines. Relay instructions to patients/families.
  • Send/receive patient medical records in accordance with Health Insurance. Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA and other state and federal regulations.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol. Clean exam/procedure rooms, instruments and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control. Clean according to the scheduled maintenance program and keep appropriate records. Manage inventory of supplies; restocking exam/procedure rooms.
  • Comply with the requirements of appropriate regulatory agencies (i.e. OSHA, CLIA, PA Department of Health. Maintain strict confidentiality related to medical records and other data. Comply with all UPMC Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform phlebotomy, EKGs, and level one labs. Perform clinic procedures according to policy and procedure. Assist physicians with procedures. Document patient information in the medical record.
  • Answering calls and providing pertinent information including patient education as directed.
  • Obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, referral information, etc. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Prepare and manage charts to ensure information is completed and filed appropriately. Other front office responsibilities, as required.
  • Under the direction and supervision of a physician, administer injectable medication and vaccines when appropriate.

Medical Assistant, Senior:

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT
  • OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA
  • OR at least 1 year of patient care experience.
  • Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in three practice category-specific tasks as determined by the manager.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.

Salaries range from $18.79 - $28.03 hourly

Medical Assistant, Expert:

  • Successful completion of Medical Assistant Program or equivalent hospital program (LPN/RN/EMT
  • OR successful completion of certification examination (AMT, AAMA, NAHP, NCCT, or NHA and 1 year of patient care experience
  • OR at least 2 years of patient care experience.
  • Must successfully complete the UPMC Preceptor training and serve as a preceptor and mentor to newly hired team members.
  • Must be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category-specific tasks as determined by the manager.

Salaries range from $18.99 - $28.11 hourly

Patient Service Coordinator:

  • High School graduate or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of three years of direct patient care and or phlebotomy experience.
  • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge of medical terminology, examination, diagnostic and treatment room responsibilities.
  • Possesses strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work with individuals from multi-disciplinary groups.
  • Possesses excellent organizational skills.

Salaries range from $18.99 - $28.11 hourly

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
