The Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator performs medical, technical, and administrative support services to contribute to the efficient day-to-day operations providing a positive patient experience. Clinical duties may include escorting patients to exam rooms, taking and recording vital signs and medical histories, preparing patients for examination, assist in procedures, prepare & administer medications and vaccines, laboratory/specimen collection/processing, address quality care gaps and other duties as directed by provider. Provides administrative support to the providers and interacts with patients by scheduling patient appointments in tandem with the provider availability, interacts with patients in person and on the phone, assigned to Contact Center to address non-scheduling calls, greets patient at check-in, collects patient information, updates/maintains electronic records, handles visit payments, ensures the exam room has needed inventory for operation, and performs clinic administrative tasks. Secure authorizations for medications. The full salary range for the Medical Assistant / Patient Care Coordinator is $50,487.84 - $62,807.04 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. This position will be primarily assigned to a work location; but may also float as needed to various UCR Health clinic locations. This position may be required to work different shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays. The intended location for this posting is for UCR Health's Multi-Specialty location however could also be recruited for our other specialty sites.
Direct Patient Care: Determining the chief complaint and documenting it in the patient's electronic medical record with close attention to accurate use of medical terms. Interviews patient to obtain medical information and record medical history/information, measure vital signs, weight, and height, and records information in the electronic medical record, identifying & addressing outstanding quality measure gaps(exams/procedures per MA protocol). Show patients to examination rooms and prepare them for the physician. Assisting with treatments and exams, provide chaperoning when necessary, including but not limited to new/minor dressing changes; suture removal; staple removal; injections; splints; ace wraps. Explain/demonstrate treatment procedures, medications, diets, or physicians' instructions to patients. Prepare treatment rooms for patient examinations and procedures, keeping the rooms neat and clean and stocked with necessary supplies. Check out: giving patient instructions for discharge, schedule follow up appointments & UCR Health specialty appointments if applicable, identify labs/orders for the patient from their visit, provide any instructions or reminders to the patients for their next visit as directed by the provider(blood pressure/blood sugar logs, etc.).Contact Center: Provides a warm welcome with appropriate etiquette to patients by answering inquiries. Responds to patients in a courteous manner. In the event a patient selects the wrong option, assists patient to the best of their ability to avoid patient dissatisfaction. Comforts patients by anticipating patients' anxieties; answering patients' questions. Following UCRH protocols/workflows - Listens to new symptoms and refers/schedules patient with appropriate level of care, take messages for providers, and assists with inquiries regarding medication refill. Documents conversation/recommendation and routes appropriately in the EMR.Medication Administration and Prescriptions: Prepare and administer medications per policy. In tandem with physician or licensed nurse, authorize drug refills, and provide prescription information to pharmacies. Patient Prior Authorizations: Coordinates prior authorizations and medication delivery between providers and outside pharmacies. Generates authorization for approval from the payor. Researches what pharmacy the patient should go to based on the payor and if any pre-authorization is required.Front Office Support: Reschedules patient appointments at the request of the patient and/or provider. Optimizes patients' satisfaction, provider time, and treatment room utilization by scheduling appointments in person or by telephone. Checks in patients at arrival. Keeps patient appointments on schedule by notifying provider of patient's arrival; reviewing service delivery compared to schedule; reminding provider of service delays; and keeps in regular communication with patients to inform them of delays. Escorts patients to the room where they will meet the provider. Collect copay and patient balances.Other duties as assigned. Participates in administrative and operational tasks related to patient care and clinic needs.Electronic Medical Record (EMR) Maintains patient accounts by obtaining, recording, and updating personal, financial, and compliance information into the Electronic Medical Record (EMR). Assists providers and patients with access and navigation to the patient portal. In-Basket Management: Monitor and respond to messages in the EMR in-baskets.Laboratory/Specimen Collection and Processing: Perform routine laboratory point of care testing and sample analyses. Collect specimens, log, and prepare for testing. Retrieves lab and test results as needed and uploads to the medical record. Ensures process is followed for provider review.
