Job Title:Medical Assistant
Location: Novi, MI (On Site)
Duration: 13-week assignment with potential conversion to Full-Time Employment (FTE)
Shift Hours: 7:00 AM 4:30 PM | Monday Thursday (4*9 hrs.)


Required Skills & Experience
  • Medical Assistant experience in an outpatient or ambulatory setting.
  • Ability to obtain vital signs and patient histories.
  • Experience with specimen collection and processing.
  • Knowledge of medication administration and documentation.
  • Ability to perform phlebotomy (venipuncture and capillary puncture).
  • Strong communication and patient care skills.
  • Ability to recognize and respond to medical emergencies.
  • Knowledge of infection control, standard precautions, and sterile technique.

Preferred Skills & Experience

  • Experience working in a Sleep Clinic or specialty clinic.
  • EPIC Electronic Medical Record (EMR) experience.
  • Basic computer and keyboarding skills.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Experience with insurance pre-authorizations and referrals.

Job Description

  • Perform initial patient screening according to provider-approved protocols.
  • Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for visits.
  • Obtain and document vital signs, medical histories, and clinical information in the Electronic Health Record (EHR).
  • Assist providers during examinations, procedures, and treatments.
  • Prepare, administer, and document medications and immunizations under provider direction while following medication safety standards.
  • Maintain accurate medication and immunization records.
  • Document all patient care activities in the EHR.
  • Recognize and respond appropriately to medical emergencies.
  • Monitor and respond promptly to patient phone calls, MyChart messages, and provider in-basket requests.
  • Enter medication, laboratory, radiology, refill, referral, and procedure orders for provider review and sign-off.
  • Provide discharge instructions and patient education as directed by the provider.
  • Collect and process laboratory specimens.
  • Perform CLIA-waived laboratory testing.
  • Conduct electrocardiograms (EKGs), respiratory testing, and other diagnostic procedures as required.
  • Perform phlebotomy, including venipuncture and capillary blood collection.
  • Coordinate appointments, referrals, outpatient procedures, and insurance pre-authorizations.
  • Serve as a liaison between patients and healthcare providers to resolve concerns and improve patient satisfaction.
  • Participate in Quality Assessment (QA) and Quality Improvement (QI) initiatives.
  • Follow infection prevention practices, including standard precautions and proper biohazard disposal.
  • Apply aseptic and sterile techniques during clinical procedures.
  • Clean, disinfect, and maintain medical instruments, examination rooms, and equipment.
  • Ensure examination rooms remain stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Maintain compliance with organizational policies, departmental procedures, safety regulations, and documentation standards.
  • Advocate for patients by supporting their healthcare needs and connecting them with appropriate community resources.
  • Educate patients on office procedures, disease prevention, health maintenance, and treatment plan compliance within scope of practice.
  • Support the organization's mission, vision, and values while performing additional duties within the Medical Assistant scope of practice.
