Summary:

  • Pay Rate: $18 - $22 per hour
  • Shift Hours: M-Th 8-4p, Fri 12-8p

Responsibilities:

  • Perform venipuncture and/or EKGs.
  • Organize patient flow and check schedules.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms and assist as needed.
  • Collect and process specimens and point of care testing.
  • Assist physicians with various procedures and take vital signs.
  • Relay instructions to patients and families, answer calls, and provide pertinent information.
  • Send and receive patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, and manage charts.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies.
  • Set up examination room and instruments per sterilization techniques.
  • Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, and other processes.
  • Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies and dispose of them appropriately.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining medical charts, scheduling surgeries/procedures, and verifying times with patients.
  • Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
  • Perform appointment scheduling and registration for patients.
  • Verify and update insurance information and perform pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
  • Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
  • BLS certification – Required Issuing Authority: AHA.

Preferred Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
  • Effective interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record or billing systems preferred, but not required.
  • Ability to adapt to a growing and changing environment.
