Key Responsibilities · Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner · Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures · Escorts patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital stats, history and reason for seeking care · Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due. · Schedules/confirms appointments · Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff. · Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider · Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations · Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens · Performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests · May perform venipuncture · Participates in clinical division meetings Requirements Qualifications Education: High School diploma or Equivalent Certification/Licensure: BLS through the American Heart Association Must meet one of the following criteria for Medical Assistant: Has attended a medical assistant training program accredited by one of the following: The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs or The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools; If your Medical Assistant program was not accredited by one of the above agencies, you will need to have a Medical Assistant Certification issued by one of the following. If needed, we will assist you in obtaining a CCMA certification. National Healthcareer Association: CCMA American Medical Technologist: RMA American Association of Medical Assistants: AAMA National Center for Competency Testing: NCMA American Medical Certification Association: CMAC Has completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States Has completed an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion, prior to February of 2000. Skills: · Ability to communicate effectively with others · Ability to manage multiple priorities and tasks, to maintain attention to detail · Knowledge of and ability to use computer hardware and software applications · Ability to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol · Knowledge of and ability to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric · Knowledge of and ability to use basic medical terminology Preferences Experience: One to two years' experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting Special Position Requirements Exposure Categories: · Category I: Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues · Other potential hazard(s): possible exposure to chemical, biological and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals Work Requirements · Must be able to distinguish appropriate colors · Incumbent must be capable of consistently reaching and/or working above and below shoulder level, lifting up to 50 pounds · Capable of walking or being on feet 90% of time per day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing · Capable of sitting at desk 10% of the time per day; communicating using telephone
