POSITION SUMMARY:
The Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant functions as an integral member of the radiation oncology team. The Radiation Oncology Medical Assistant, as a member of the team, will report under the direct supervision of the RN’s. Medical Assistant must be able to multi-task and perform in an emergent situation. Previous experience in a medical office or clinic while demonstrating effective and respectful communication for development of collaborative relationships amongst staff and patients
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Proper medical record documentation, accurately document care and patient education.
· Provides clinical care, nursing consultation and education, as it relates to oncology care and radiation therapy delivery.
· Provides assessment, observe patient’s condition and reports progress or significant changes to physician or RN.
· Performs a wide variety of clerical duties: processing patient documents, ordering supplies, initiation and completion of insurance verification, phone messages, obtain outside records, checking in patients.
· Monitors incoming patient referrals to optimize patient flow, scheduling, and insurance eligibility.
· Assists with patient/family/significant other’s learning needs, abilities, and readiness to learn.
· Identifies barriers to learning, such as language or culture.
· Identifies and documents the patient, family and/or caregivers education needs, in collaboration with other disciplines and implements an on-going education relevant to these needs.
