We are seeking a Medical Assistant to join our team at Academic Alliance in Dermatology in Sarasota, FL. In this role, you will partner closely with the provider to support both general and cosmetic dermatology services. Responsibilities include preparing exam and procedure rooms, maintaining adequate clinical supplies, and assisting with patient care throughout the day.
Candidates with Medical Assistant experience in any specialty are encouraged to apply. Prior dermatology experience is preferred but not required.
Schedule/Hours: Monday - Friday (8:00 AM - 5:00 PM)

Responsibilities:
What you'll do:
Greet and prepare patients for their visit by obtaining histories and documenting all intake information within the EMR (EMA)
Coordinate patient flow throughout the clinic to support an efficient schedule and minimize delays
Prepare exam and procedure rooms by organizing instruments, setting up trays, supplies, and equipment based on provider needs
Provide hands-on assistance during dermatology procedures, including biopsies, excisions, and other in-office treatments
Process laboratory and pathology specimens, ensuring accurate labeling and proper routing in accordance with payer guidelines
Assist with numbing patients
Respond to patient inquiries in person and via phone, directing clinical concerns to the appropriate team members when needed
Manage clinical communications such as inbox tasks, nurse line messages, voicemails, faxes, and internal requests
Support documentation efforts by entering notes and assisting with scribing during patient visits as needed
Maintain cleanliness and sterilization of instruments and equipment following established infection control standards
Track and maintain inventory, remove expired items, and ensure accurate documentation of supplies and medications
Replenish and organize clinical stock to keep exam rooms and storage areas fully equipped
Follow up with patients regarding pathology results, document all outreach, and coordinate next steps per provider guidance
Uphold HIPAA standards and ensure all patient information remains confidential
Contribute to daily clinic operations and assist with additional duties as assigned

Demonstrates the ability to assess and prioritize patient concerns appropriately
Maintains adherence to OSHA, HIPAA, infection control, and bloodborne pathogen guidelines
Skilled in obtaining and recording vital signs and preparing patients for clinical visits
Comfortable assisting with or administering injections in a clinical setting
Familiar with medical terminology
Understanding of basic office billing and financial procedures
Proficient with computers and experienced in working within electronic medical record (EMR) systems
Able to use standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, copiers, and fax machines
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Fluent in English
Capable of performing effectively in a fast-moving, occasionally high-pressure environment
Works well collaboratively with team members while maintaining professionalism with patients and visitors
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and adjust priorities throughout the day
Able to follow both verbal and written instructions accurately
Detail-oriented with the ability to organize and file information using alphabetical or numerical systems
Licensure/Certifications/Education:
Education and Experience:
High school diploma or equivalent required
Completion of a Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant program, or a bachelor’s degree in a pre-med or pre-PA track, is preferred
Previous hands-on clinical experience (1-2 years preferred) in a Medical Assistant (CMA), CNA, or similar patient care role
Dermatology experience is beneficial but not required
Physical Requirements:
Ability to remain on your feet and move throughout the clinic for extended periods
Frequent movement including bending, reaching, twisting, and maintaining balance
Regular use of hands for clinical and administrative tasks
Clear communication both in person and over the phone
Handling everyday clinical materials and supplies
Ability to lift or move items up to approximately 30 pounds
Exposure to clinical environments, including potential contact with biohazards, chemicals, and sharp instruments
