Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Medical Assistant to join our team at Allegheny Health Network. As a Medical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our healthcare team in providing high-quality patient care. Job Responsibilities

  • Assist in coordinating patient care under the supervision of the healthcare provider
  • Prepare and room patients within the clinical practice setting according to standardized workflows
  • Accurately obtain patient vital signs, document patient information, and screen for tobacco and medication use
  • May assist in the administration of depression screening tools and complete annual wellness visit screenings
  • Review and update patient medication lists in the EHR and review social history with patients
  • Perform back office testing following approved AHN protocols and policies
  • Assist providers with examination and procedures
  • May serve as a scribe with additional training
  • Provide follow-up with patients at designated intervals via patient-preferred method
  • Notify patients of test results under the direction of the provider in a timely manner
  • Prepare exam rooms for patient visits, ensure adequate inventory of medical supplies, and clean and sterilize instruments
  • Accurately perform lab controls and equipment checks as assigned
  • Administer and accurately document medications in accordance with policy and safe practice
  • Perform clerical office functions and other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant Program
  • OR 1 year of Medical Assistant experience
  • OR 1 year in a direct patient care role including vital signs
  • Candidate experience must align with expected clinical duties (e.g., injections, phlebotomy, EKGs)
  • CPR - American Heart Association
  • Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
  • Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
  • Certification Requirements:
  • Employees who have graduated from a medical assistant program within five years OR proof of one year of work experience as a medical assistant in the last three years must complete certification training and/or attempt testing within 30 days of hire and must obtain certification within 120 days of hire
  • Accepted Medical Assistant Certification: NHA, AAMA, AMT, NCCT, AMCA
  • Preferred: Associates Degree
