Job Description
Medical Administrative Specialist
Location: Mike O’Callahan Military Medical Center (MOMMC), Nellis Air Force Base – Las Vegas, NVSchedule: Monday–Friday | 8‑hour shifts between 0700–1900
Position Summary - POTENTIAL OPPORTUNITY
The Medical Administrative Specialist provides essential administrative and clerical support within a military healthcare setting. This role supports clinical operations by managing patient scheduling, medical records, front‑office functions, and administrative processes while ensuring compliance with Department of Defense (DoD) and HIPAA regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet and assist patients, service members, and staff in a professional manner
- Schedule, reschedule, and cancel medical appointments and referrals
- Maintain and update electronic health records (EHR/EMR) accurately and securely
- Verify patient identification, eligibility, and required documentation
- Answer and route phone calls; provide general information and administrative support
- Prepare, review, and process medical and administrative paperwork
- Coordinate with clinical staff to support daily clinic operations
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA, DoD, and facility policies and procedures
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; post‑secondary education preferred
- Prior experience in a medical office, clinic, or administrative role preferred
- Proficiency with EHR systems and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Knowledge of medical terminology and healthcare administrative processes
- Strong communication, organizational, and customer service skills
- Ability to multitask in a fast‑paced clinical environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain base access to Nellis Air Force Base
