Under supervision of the Practice Manager position completes patient registration, answers questions in-person or via phone, schedules appointments, files, provides medical file management, and renders administrative support for medical provider(s).

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position

  • No minimum education requirement.
  • Experience working in a medical clinic, directly communicating and providing service to patients or public. Experience with and knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Experience utilizing established department triage protocols including referral to the advice/triage nurse, to assess patient needs, for the purpose of optimal appointment scheduling.
  • Experience with electronic medical records and patient scheduling systems. Experience in documentation of information and maintenance of patient records.
  • Experience maintaining a high degree of discretion, integrity, and sensitivity to confidentiality and privacy.
  • Computer skills to utilize various computer applications, such as word processing, computerized databases, electronic medical record, accounting systems, electronic spreadsheets, scanners, and fax machines.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to work effectively and diplomatically with people from diverse ethnic, economic and cultural backgrounds, including staff, faculty, and the general public

Preferred Qualifications

  • Medical referral experience.
  • Spanish speaking skills.
  • Skills to handle emergency situations with composure and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of Workers Compensation Laws and Regulations, International Classification of Diseases, Physicians Current Procedural Terminology, Relative Value Studies, OSHA guidelines, DaFIS and University Policies and Procedures.
  • Skill to perform accurate mathematical calculations.

Department Overview

UC Davis Occupational Health Services is responsible for worker health and safety in a highly diverse teaching, research, and support service environment. The population served exceeds 20,000 covered lives representing 6,500 clinic encounters in the preceding year. Regulatory oversight of OH programs includes OSHA (Cal OSHA), CA DIR, CA Department of Public Health and Yolo Co. Health, US Department of Transportation, HIPAA, and the Americans with Disabilities Act. OH supports the research environment and ensures medical compliance with recommendations and standards of NIH, CDC, AAALAC, USDA, and the NRC. A failure to meet the objectives and regulations of these programs can result in bad patient outcomes including injury and death, fines, and loss of accreditation resulting in the loss of ability to continue campus programs.

Work Environment

UC Davis is a smoke and tobacco free campus effective January 1, 2014.
