Sirius Automation is a company with decades of experience in laboratory automation, drawing on expertise in engineering, chemistry, diagnostics, software development, and analytical instrumentation. Since the early days of laboratory automation, Sirius has focused on delivering customized solutions rather than a one-size-fits-all approach, helping organizations maximize efficiency and value through tailored automation systems.

Today, Sirius Automation supports leading companies across pharmaceutical, chemical, environmental, energy, food, bioscience, and other industries worldwide. With deep expertise in automated workstation design, controls, integration, testing, and troubleshooting, Sirius serves as a long-term automation partner, providing innovative solutions backed by extensive industry knowledge and a commitment to customer success.

Position Summary:

The Mechatronics Engineer works closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to support the design, documentation, testing, and continuous improvement of custom laboratory automation systems. This role is responsible for creating and maintaining 2D/3D mechanical designs, electrical drawings, BOMs, and engineering documentation, while also supporting production, testing, installation, troubleshooting, and R&D activities, including maintenance of in-house test equipment.

This is a highly hands-on, documentation-focused position requiring strong SolidWorks experience and a solid understanding of mechanical and electrical systems. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, eager to learn, communicates effectively, takes ownership of their work, and thrives in a collaborative engineering environment, with occasional travel required to support customer installations and field service activities.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

  • Create, revise, and maintain 2D/3D SolidWorks models, assemblies, manufacturing drawings, electrical schematics, BOMs, and related engineering documentation for custom automation equipment.

  • Support senior engineers with product development, design revisions, R&D projects, and continuous improvement initiatives while ensuring accurate documentation and data management within SolidWorks PDM.

  • Assist with assembly, testing, debugging, validation, and troubleshooting of automation systems, including maintenance and upgrades of in-house test equipment and test benches.

  • Support production teams by resolving engineering issues, implementing design improvements, and ensuring designs meet customer and project requirements.

  • Collaborate with engineering, software, robotics, manufacturing, and build teams to execute projects and communicate technical updates effectively.

  • Interpret engineering requirements, specifications, and customer needs to develop practical design solutions.

  • Generate and revise production BOMs and support procurement activities as needed.

  • Travel to customer sites to support installations, commissioning, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.

  • Communicate technical issues, project updates, and improvement opportunities clearly and professionally.

  • Maintain confidentiality of proprietary company and customer information.

Qualifications Desired:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related field, with 2+ years of experience in mechanical design, automation, robotics, or machine-building environments.

  • Proficiency with SolidWorks for 2D and 3D design, including manufacturing drawings, assemblies, BOMs, and revision control.

  • Working knowledge of ISO dimensioning standards, GD&T, tolerances, fits, clearances, surface finishes, and machine design principles.

  • Basic understanding of robotics, automation systems, electrical schematics, pneumatic and electric actuators, and motion control components.

  • Hands-on experience with mechanical assembly, testing, troubleshooting, and production support in a manufacturing or automation environment.

  • Strong problem-solving, documentation, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team setting.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

Nonessential Skills and Experience:

  • Experience with manual machining
