Position Summary The Mechanical Technician is responsible for the maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of welding equipment used in stainless steel manufacturing, with a strong emphasis on orbital welding systems. This role ensures optimal equipment performance, minimizes downtime, and supports production quality and efficiency. Key Responsibilities - Perform routine maintenance, calibration, and repair of welding equipment, including orbital welders, TIG/MIG welders, and related systems
- Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and control issues in automated and semi-automated welding machinery
- Maintain and service orbital welding systems, including weld heads, power supplies, and gas delivery systems
- Conduct preventive maintenance (PM) programs to ensure equipment reliability and longevity
- Troubleshoot and repair hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical components associated with welding systems
- Collaborate with engineering and production teams to optimize welding processes and equipment performance
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, logs, and documentation
- Assist in installation, setup, and commissioning of new welding equipment
- Ensure compliance with safety standards, including lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures
- Support continuous improvement initiatives to reduce downtime and improve efficiency
Required Qualifications - High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school certification preferred
- 3+ years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in stainless steel or metal fabrication environments
- Hands-on experience with welding equipment maintenance, including orbital welding systems
- Strong mechanical aptitude with knowledge of bearings, drives, motors, and alignment
- Basic electrical troubleshooting skills (motors, sensors, wiring, control systems)
- Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, and technical manuals
- Strong problem-solving and diagnostic skills
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment

- Time management and ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment
Preferred Qualifications - Experience with orbital welding brands (e.g., AMI, Arc Machines Inc., Orbitalum, Swagelok)
- Familiarity with stainless steel processing and high-purity welding applications
- PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, etc.)
- Certification in welding or maintenance-related disciplines
