EGS is seeking a Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineer to support our client located in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. This is a long term (3-4 years) contract position that comes with top competitive rates, and great benefits.

MUST BE US CITIZEN.

This position provides engineering support for an advanced fuel manufacturing facility, supporting projects from early research and development through system design, installation, commissioning, testing, and ongoing maintenance activities. The engineer will contribute to the development, fabrication, operation, and optimization of mechanical and process systems that support facility operations and fuel manufacturing initiatives. This role works closely with the Facility & Utilities Engineering team.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop engineering designs for facility and process support systems, including chemical systems, piping, HVAC, ventilation, structural components, electro-mechanical equipment, automation systems, and robotics.
  • Perform engineering calculations such as load analysis, system sizing, equipment selection, and layout development for piping, ductwork, and facility ventilation systems.
  • Support the design, fabrication, installation, startup, and operational maintenance of facility systems including HVAC, chilled water systems, process exhaust, HEPA filtration, process water, chemical distribution systems, process gas systems, and dust collection systems.
  • Collaborate with process engineering, facility engineering, and fuel development teams to support manufacturing and operational objectives.
  • Prepare and maintain engineering documentation including specifications, calculations, mechanical drawings, process flow diagrams (PFDs), piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), and design requirements.
  • Conduct engineering analysis, simulations, and energy modeling to improve system efficiency, reliability, and sustainability while ensuring compliance with applicable regulatory and safety requirements.
  • Coordinate with multidisciplinary engineering and design teams to ensure successful integration of HVAC and mechanical systems into facility designs and manufacturing operations.
  • Provide technical guidance and clarification to contractors and field personnel, resolving design issues and supporting field execution activities.
  • Select and procure components for process and mechanical systems including motors, drives, pumps, sensors, and valves.
  • Assemble and support prototype systems and equipment used for testing and development activities.
  • Operate and evaluate process equipment to support design verification, validation, troubleshooting, and quality assurance efforts.
  • Support manufacturing operations through reliability engineering, maintenance planning, process improvement initiatives, failure analysis, and cost estimation activities.
  • Develop standard operating procedures (SOPs) and preventative maintenance plans for facility systems and process equipment.
  • Participate in the development of standardized engineering workflows, best practices, and technical documentation.
  • Maintain a high level of professionalism and effective communication across all teams and stakeholders.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers and engineering support staff.
  • Lead small engineering teams in solving complex technical challenges while delivering quality work products on schedule and within budget.
  • Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned.

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or Nuclear Engineering from an ABET-accredited Engineering Accreditation Commission (EAC) program required.
  • Experience with CAD software and P&ID development is required.
  • Prior experience supporting facility design, construction, and operational environments is required.
  • Strong background in machine design, process engineering, or facility system design and assembly.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical and/or chemical engineering principles related to system design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operation.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing facility design principles, including lean manufacturing methodologies.
  • Familiarity with applicable engineering codes, standards, and regulatory requirements related to mechanical and process systems.
  • Experience with 2D and 3D engineering and manufacturing tools such as Pro/ENGINEER (ProE) or similar platforms.
  • Proficiency with engineering and modeling software including AutoCAD, Revit, Carrier HAP, TRACE 3D Plus, or equivalent design tools.
  • Successful drug screening.
