Job Title: Mechanical Field TechnicianJob Description

The Mechanical Field Technician assembles and tests advanced mechanical systems that support next-generation High Energy Laser weapon technologies. This role operates hand and power tools to build mechanical assemblies from prints, schematics, and bills of materials, supports testing activities in the field with required travel, and contributes to fixture design and soldering work in a regulated manufacturing and field environment.

Responsibilities

  • Operate hand tools and power tools to build mechanical assemblies according to engineering prints, schematics, and bills of materials.
  • Perform mechanical assembly and sub-assembly work with a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Support testing activities in the field, including traveling to test sites as required.
  • Conduct troubleshooting and testing of mechanical and electromechanical systems to ensure proper operation.
  • Carry out soldering tasks as part of assembly and test processes where required.
  • Assist with the design, assembly, and use of test fixtures to validate system performance.
  • Follow procedures and documentation appropriate for a regulated environment, adhering to all quality and safety standards.
  • Work collaboratively with engineering and other technical staff to resolve mechanical issues and improve assembly processes.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
  • Accurately document work performed, test results, and any issues identified during assembly and testing.

Essential Skills

  • Proficiency in using hand tools and power tools for mechanical assembly work.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude with experience assembling components from prints, schematics, and bills of materials.
  • Hands-on troubleshooting skills for mechanical and testing-related issues.
  • Experience performing testing on mechanical or electromechanical systems.
  • Ability to perform soldering tasks to support assembly and test activities.
  • Capability to work effectively in a regulated environment, following established procedures and standards.
  • Willingness and ability to travel to field locations to support testing.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documentation, including drawings and schematics.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality, reliable assemblies.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in manufacturing or field-based technical roles.
  • Background in fixture design or assisting with the design and setup of test fixtures.
  • Familiarity with high-reliability or defense-related technologies and systems.
  • Comfort working in rugged and challenging environments where systems must perform reliably.
  • Strong communication skills to collaborate with engineering and technical teams.
  • Organizational skills to manage multiple assembly and test tasks in a dynamic environment.

This role operates in both manufacturing and field environments. In the manufacturing setting, the technician works with hand and power tools, test equipment, and assembly fixtures while following regulated procedures and safety standards. Field work involves supporting testing activities at off-site locations, including rugged and challenging environments where systems are designed to survive and thrive. Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $44.00/hr.
