Role: Engineering Technician
Location: Sterling, Virginia (On-site) 
Duration: 12+ Months Contract
 
Job Summary: 
We are seeking an Engineering Technician to join its team of high-performing scientists, engineers, and technicians at client’s Sterling, VA facility. The candidate will assist in the development of new products and material processes in the field of advanced materials for commercial and Department of Defense applications ranging from applied research & development (R&D) to pilot scale production. This position requires an individual with hands-on industrial machine and equipment operations experience, an understanding of basic scientific principles, an excellent safety track record, and a desire to constantly improve. General knowledge and experience working with metal or ceramic powder, analytical equipment, machine and welding shop environments, and engineering prototyping and design is also beneficial.
Description:
  • Support the development of consolidation, milling, or manufacturing processes for new and existing materials by: preparing materials for testing, assembling components, supporting welding and machining operations, etc.
  • Support lab operations by: preparing high quality analytical samples, using laboratory equipment to evaluate basic metallographic properties, generating test reports, maintaining organization and inventory of lab samples and supplies, etc.
  • Work with design engineers to develop products for small scale testing/evaluation and larger scale manufacturing
  • Support machine maintenance and repair operations
  • Other duties as assigned
Required:
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Eligibility to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance is required; U.S. citizenship is a pre-requisite
  • 2 years of hands-on experience in a related position
  • A strong willingness to learn new skills
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills
Preferred:
  • Vocational, Associates or Bachelor’s degree in a technical field
  • Experience with metal or ceramic powder handling
  • Hands on/applied skills and capabilities with a variety of industrial equipment and the ability to thrive in an R&D Lab/Industrial environment
  • Familiarity with mechanical design, prototype and product assembly and welding, manual and CNC machining practices and techniques
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Experience supporting welding operations
