Mechanical Engineer Static Equipment
Location: Houston, TX
Job Type: 3-Month Contract (Potential for Extension)
Schedule: Full-Time, Onsite
Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer Static Equipment to support ongoing maintenance and services projects at an industrial facility in Houston, TX. This immediate opportunity offers the chance to work on challenging projects while supporting long-term client operations. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with static equipment design, analysis, inspection, and repair in industrial environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate in vendor, client, and internal engineering meetings.
- Specify and evaluate vessels, columns, tanks, heat exchangers, vessel internals, and other static process equipment.
- Prepare equipment data sheets, mechanical equipment specifications, and supporting technical documentation.
- Conduct technical and economic evaluations, bid tabulations, and vendor assessments.
- Develop equipment recommendations based on project requirements and engineering standards.
- Attend vendor design reviews and fabrication kickoff meetings.
- Perform repair and alteration calculations in accordance with applicable ASME, NBIC, and API codes.
- Conduct Fitness-for-Service (FFS) evaluations and engineering assessments.
- Review engineering drawings, calculations, and technical documents for accuracy and compliance.
- Support troubleshooting and problem-solving efforts related to static equipment performance and reliability.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
- 5 10 years of experience with static equipment in industrial facilities.
- Strong knowledge of:
- ASME Section VIII
- TEMA Standards
- API Standards for static equipment
- ASME B31.1 and B31.3 Piping Codes
- Experience using PRG Solutions software, including:
- FEPipe
- NozzlePro
- Related analysis tools
- Experience using HTRI for heat exchanger design and troubleshooting.
- Experience using COMPRESS pressure vessel design software.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform thorough technical reviews and document checks.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license in the State of Texas.
- Experience performing pipe stress analysis using CAESAR II.
- Knowledge of materials science and welding technology.
- Current TWIC Card or ability to obtain one.
- Experience working in refinery, petrochemical, chemical processing, or other industrial environments.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, email, video conferencing, and project management software platforms.
- Ability to work onsite within an active industrial facility.
- Must be capable of walking, climbing, and navigating industrial environments, including elevated work areas.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety vest, respirator (as required), and steel-toed boots.
Work Environment
This position will support operations across multiple work settings including office environments, project trailers, warehouses, and active industrial facilities. Employees may be exposed to varying noise levels and work around operating equipment, construction activities, vehicles, tools, and other personnel. Adherence to all safety policies and procedures is required.
Please Note: This opportunity is being offered as a 3-month contract assignment with the potential for extension based on project needs and performance.
