Mechanical Engineer Location: Austin, TX

Salary: $115,000ā$130,000 DOE
Position Overview We are seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the design and implementation of mechanical systems for food and beverage production facilities. This role focuses on HVAC, plumbing, utility, and fire suppression systems within industrial and process environments. The ideal candidate will have experience managing multiple projects simultaneously and leading engineering efforts from concept through execution, including equipment selection, system design, vendor coordination, and commissioning support.
Key Responsibilities Engineering & Design
Design HVAC, plumbing, utility, and fire suppression systems
Perform heating and cooling load calculations
Conduct energy balance, drainage, and line loss calculations
Complete flow studies, including hydrant and utility flow analysis
Develop sanitary system layouts and process exhaust considerations
Create mechanical schedules and system details
Prepare P&IDs, equipment layouts, utility distribution plans, and process piping plans
Develop equipment and construction specifications
Project Execution
Lead projects independently while managing multiple assignments concurrently
Execute engineering tasks from project kickoff through construction and commissioning
Coordinate with internal teams, clients, vendors, and subcontractors
Support bid package development, including scope of work, equipment lists, and schedules
Provide project cost estimates and scheduling support to Project Managers
Participate in commissioning and startup activities
Vendor & Client Coordination
Evaluate and select vendors, subcontractors, and equipment suppliers
Review vendor shop drawings and FAT documentation
Interface directly with clients and external stakeholders
Ensure designs comply with applicable building codes and insurance carrier requirements
Leadership & Collaboration
Conduct bid reviews and peer design reviews
Assist with technical system development across multidisciplinary teams
Develop controls functional descriptions
Serve as discipline lead for commissioning activities
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
Experience designing industrial mechanical systems preferred
Strong knowledge of HVAC, plumbing, utility, and fire protection systems
Familiarity with MS Project and project scheduling
Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
Strong communication and client-facing skills
Preferred Experience
Food & beverage or industrial/process facility experience
Experience with P&IDs and process utility systems
Knowledge of applicable building and safety codes
Commissioning and startup support experience
