Mechanical Engineer Rotating Equipment

Location: Houston, TX
Job Type: 3-Month Contract (Potential for Extension)
Schedule: Full-Time, 40 Hours per Week (Non-Exempt)
Work Arrangement: Onsite

Position Overview

Our client is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer Rotating Equipment to support maintenance and reliability initiatives at an industrial facility in Houston, TX. This temporary field assignment offers the opportunity to work directly with plant operations and maintenance teams while providing engineering expertise for rotating equipment performance, troubleshooting, and reliability improvements.

This is an immediate opportunity with the potential for contract extension based on project demands and performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform inspections and diagnostic evaluations of plant rotating equipment.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical equipment issues and coordinate repair activities.
  • Provide technical support to improve equipment reliability, efficiency, and overall performance.
  • Collaborate with operations and maintenance personnel to identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
  • Support best practices for equipment operation and maintenance.
  • Coordinate and assist with the development and maintenance of plant piping specifications.
  • Review vendor documentation for technical accuracy and specification compliance.
  • Evaluate equipment designs and provide recommendations to support operational goals.
  • Perform detailed engineering reviews of technical documents, calculations, and drawings.
  • Support maintenance, turnaround, and reliability improvement initiatives as needed.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline.
  • 5 10 years of rotating equipment experience in industrial environments.
  • Hands-on experience with:
    • Pumps
    • Pump Seal Systems
    • Blowers and Fans
    • Mixers
    • Compressors
  • Experience working with ASME and API standards related to rotating equipment and machinery.
  • Experience developing and interpreting Piping Material Class Specifications.
  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with operations, maintenance, and engineering teams in a plant environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License in the State of Texas.
  • TWIC Card or ability to obtain one.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to perform thorough technical reviews and drawing checks.
  • Experience reviewing vendor documentation and evaluating design compliance.
  • Excellent communication skills, including active listening, verbal communication, and technical writing.
  • Experience supporting refinery, petrochemical, chemical processing, power generation, or other industrial facilities.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to communicate effectively in person, by phone, email, video conferencing, and project management software platforms.
  • Ability to work in active industrial and construction environments.
  • Must be capable of walking, climbing, and navigating industrial facilities, including elevated work areas when required.
  • Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, gloves, safety vest, respirator (as required), and steel-toed boots.

Work Environment

This position will support activities across office settings, warehouses, project trailers, construction sites, and operating industrial facilities. Employees may be exposed to varying environmental conditions and moderate to high noise levels. Work areas may include heavy equipment, vehicles, construction materials, tools, and active operations requiring strict adherence to safety policies and procedures.

Please Note: This opportunity is being offered as a 3-month contract assignment with the potential for extension based on project needs and performance.
