GENERAL SUMMARY
A Mechanical Engineer provides technical leadership, analysis, development, and sets maintenance direction of plant production equipment and support systems. Designs fixtures and supports, troubleshooting of plant equipment, hydraulic systems, and complex PLC logic controls. Leads machine selection, designs needed modifications, and determines power and maintenance requirements. Provides project management working with engineering, maintenance, supervision, and floor personnel.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Performs complex mechanical engineering assignments with considerable latitude for action and decision making. Performs research, design, development, and testing of mechanical products and systems. Designs, develops, and tests various tools, machinery, and equipment. Evaluates new and used equipment in concert with Manufacturing Engineers, maintenance, and tooling departments for production suitability, quality, reliability, and maintainability. Sizes motors, hydraulics, and selects control equipment. Develops new or customizes equipment control PLC programs. Leads customization efforts to adapt equipment to our production requirements, providing 3D designs. Leads improvement projects and looks for adaptation of new technologies for cost & quality savings. Monitors equipment repairs proactively working with various vendors to improve equipment operation and long-term reliability. Recommends maintenance frequency to minimize downtime and outage risks. Project manager for plant improvements, new facility design, and equipment installations. Provides planning, cost, success criteria, coordination, activity tracking, and follow-up of issues. Provides lessons-learned at project closeout. Provides floor plans and equipment layouts. Ensures compliance with city, county, state, and federal regulations in equipment installation and maintenance. Recommends updates to operating and training manuals for maintenance and production departments on equipment trouble-shooting and repair. Evaluates mechanical and electromechanical systems and products by designing and conducting research programs applying principles of mechanics, thermodynamics, hydraulics, heat transfer, and materials. Confirms system and product capabilities by designing feasibility and testing methods, testing properties. Assures system and product quality by designing testing methods, testing finished-product and system capabilities, confirming fabrication, assembly, and installation processes. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, participating in professional societies. Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Bachelors Degree in Mechanical Engineering supplemented with 5-8 years manufacturing experience in supporting plant utilities and production equipment in a manufacturing environment. 2-5 years of project management experience with PMP preferred. Lean, TPS, and Six Sigma experience and/or training. Advanced computer skills including PLC programming preferred. SolidWorks 3D design experience preferred.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
As an employee, you may be required to work in cool to extremely hot environments. There is potential for exposure to fuels, oils, cleaning solvents, and fumes from machinery. PPE and/or job-specific safety equipment may be required.
