Job Title: Mechanical Engineer

Job Description

This Mechanical Engineer role focuses on researching, planning, analyzing, designing, and developing complex mechanical products such as ammunition handling systems, structures, gun systems, missile launchers, mechanisms, and related devices. The engineer performs technical analysis, testing, and evaluation of moderately complex engineering problems using specialized equipment and computer programs, ensuring designs comply with engineering standards, military specifications, and product requirements. The role also includes developing technical documentation and supporting presentations for internal and external stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Apply mechanical engineering principles to develop solutions for complex systems such as ammunition handling systems, large structures, gun systems, missile launchers, and mechanisms.
  • Provide technical guidance to engineering teams, designers, and drafters involved in design and analysis.
  • Develop and analyze mechanical designs from concept through detailed design to meet technical, cost, and performance goals.
  • Perform calculations, simulations, testing, and evaluations using engineering tools and software.
  • Interpret specifications, drawings, and test data to ensure compliance with standards and requirements.
  • Develop and revise technical documentation including design reports and specifications.
  • Prepare and deliver technical presentations to stakeholders and support formal design reviews.
  • Contribute to technical and cost inputs for proposals and business development efforts.
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends, engineering practices, and emerging technologies.
  • Mentor junior technical staff and support team development as needed.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure alignment on design intent and deliverables.
  • Follow safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME).
  • 3+ years of experience using CAD tools (PTC Pro/E Wildfire and CREO preferred).
  • 3+ years of mechanical design experience including structural and sheet metal design.
  • Experience designing large assemblies and mechanical systems.
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling, assemblies, and detailed drawings using Pro/E or CREO.
  • Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Ability to analyze, design, and develop mechanical systems using engineering standards.
  • Experience interpreting engineering drawings, specifications, and test data.
  • Ability to perform calculations, simulations, and engineering analysis.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Team-oriented with ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with large structures or defense-related (DoD) systems preferred.
  • Knowledge of structural design for complex mechanical systems.
  • Ability to deliver technical presentations to various audiences.
  • Experience supporting engineering proposals and cost estimates.
  • Familiarity with technical reviews and presenting design decisions.
  • Ability to mentor and guide less experienced engineers.
  • Strong organization and attention to detail in managing designs and documentation.

Work Environment

This role operates in a collaborative office setting with designers, drafters, and engineers. It involves frequent cross-functional communication to coordinate design activities and project deliverables. After initial on-site orientation, the position follows a hybrid schedule, requiring 40 hours in-office over a two-week period. Work includes use of CAD tools (PTC Pro/E Wildfire and CREO) and engineering software for modeling, analysis, and testing, with a focus on safety, teamwork, and professional development.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $45.00 - $55.00/hr.
