Job Description

This role is ideal for a mechanical engineer with 3-5 years of experience who is passionate about complex building systems and advanced technology environments. You will design and coordinate HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for highly technical facilities, including aerospace, high tech, data centers, higher education, industrial, and healthcare projects. Responsibilities

• Design and engineer HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for a wide range of commercial and industrial facilities, including aerospace, high tech, data centers, higher education, industrial, and healthcare projects.
• Develop mechanical system layouts, calculations, and specifications using tools such as Revit, CAD, and Bluebeam to produce accurate and coordinated construction documents.
• Participate in the design of complex, one-of-a-kind engineering solutions such as environmental chambers, launch test facilities, manufacturing spaces, clean rooms, and other advanced technology environments.
• Collaborate closely with cross-disciplinary teams, including mechanical, plumbing, and electrical engineers, to ensure integrated and efficient building system designs.
• Coordinate with clients, architects, and contractors to understand project requirements, present design concepts, and address technical questions throughout the project lifecycle.
• Support and, depending on project size, lead project teams, providing guidance and coaching to junior staff and contributing to their technical development.
• Assist project managers with planning, scheduling, and execution of projects, including client interface, coordination meetings, and managing design deliverables.
• Take ownership of assigned tasks and deliverables, ensuring accuracy, timeliness, and alignment with client expectations and project standards.
• Contribute to innovative approaches in design processes and workflows, seeking continuous improvement in how mechanical engineering work is performed.
• Maintain a proactive, positive, and team-oriented attitude, participating in a culture where the team wins and loses together and supports each other in meeting commitments.
• Demonstrate accountability by owning your work, following through on commitments, and maintaining high professional standards in front of clients and internal stakeholders.

Essential Skills

• 3-5 years of mechanical engineering experience focused on HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
• Engineering-in-Training (EIT) or Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Hands-on experience in commercial or industrial construction environments, such as power, manufacturing, or similar facility types.
• Proficiency in mechanical engineering principles related to building systems design, including load calculations, equipment selection, and system layout.
• Experience working on projects in aerospace, high tech, data centers, higher education, industrial, or healthcare facilities, or similar complex environments.
• Ability to work effectively in a team-based setting, collaborating with other engineers and project stakeholders.
• Strong communication skills for client coordination, meetings, and interfacing with internal and external project teams.
• Demonstrated ability to take responsibility for project tasks and deliverables, with a high level of accountability and follow-through.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience using Revit for mechanical system modeling and documentation.
• Experience with CAD software for drafting and design coordination.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam for document review, markups, and collaboration.
• Background in designing building systems for specialized facilities such as clean rooms, environmental chambers, and launch test or manufacturing facilities.
• Interest in working on highly technical, non-cookie-cutter projects that may present unique engineering challenges rarely seen in a typical career.
• Desire for professional growth with the potential to become a project manager or principal, or to remain focused on design as a senior technical contributor.
• Ability to lead project teams, providing mentorship and direction when acting in a project management capacity.

Work Environment

You will work in an office of approximately 27 employees, with a mix of electrical and mechanical/plumbing engineers. The team structure is flexible rather than rigidly segmented; project leaders select the right people for each project and aim to keep teams together throughout the life of the project. The environment has a strong family feel where colleagues know each other well, support one another, and share a commitment to high performance. Project types span healthcare, education, government, science and technology, and commercial facilities, including work with major aerospace and technology organizations. Engineers collaborate closely and are expected to be visible, engaged, and accountable, rather than working in isolation.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Littleton, CO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $50.00/hr.
