FUNCTION: Supports their Squad by developing engineering solutions from concept through detail design, manufacturing, testing, delivery and installation.

REPORTING TO: Sr. Project Engineer

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Create and develop design concepts into working engineering solutions.
  • Produce manufacturing detail drawings incorporating limits and fits, welding symbols, geometric tolerances and surface finish.
  • Provide full engineering calculations to support designs.
  • Produce technical reports and documents.
  • Provide technical files in conjunction with the contract and quality program requirements.
  • Specify components/systems based on calculations and relevant practical experience.
  • Work as part of a design team and interact with other engineering disciplines.
  • Support project engineering leads and project managers with technical back up.
  • Enforce working to processes and procedures.
  • Assist business development with quotations for new business.
  • Drive down design times with cost saving innovations.
  • Manage CAD data and documentation.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be able to work on a computer (standing or sitting) for most of the day and use standard office equipment.The ability to communicate effectively in writing and verbally with team members, customers and vendors is essential. May occasionally lift and carry objects, materials, or equipment, typically under 50 pounds.Occasional stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing and crawling to access and inspect equipment or systems may also be necessary.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Primarily an office environment with work periodically performed in the fabrication/machine shop and outdoor testing areas. Depending on the project, there may be occasional travel to customer job sites.JFT has implemented a 9/80 work schedule, and the office is closed every other Friday

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Minimum 2 years of mechanical engineering and design experience.
  • Nuclear or high hazardous remote special purpose machinery design experience a plus.
  • Conversant with nuclear design procedures.
  • Experience with calculations (FEA, stress/fatigue/vibration analysis) preferred.
  • Working knowledge of manufacturing techniques and processes.
  • Ability to operate both 2D (AutoCAD) and 3D design software packages (Inventor and Vault system/SolidWorks).
  • Working knowledge of current design/safety legislation.

Under applicable DOE orders and client contracts, non-U.S. citizens (including lawful permanent residents) may require an approved DOE Foreign National Visit/Assignment (FNVA) before starting work.
