    Job Title: Mechanical Engineer I
    Location: Santa Clara, CA

    Description:

    We are developing a revolutionary, low cost single-molecule DNA sequencer that can potentially improve the lives of people in a wide variety of ways including timely screening for diseases and diagnosis of various cancers by fusing biological and integrated circuit technology. We are seeking a mechanical engineer to support development of consumable fluidic devices at Roche Santa Clara, with educational and/or professional background in mechanical and/or process engineering. This candidate will be responsible for supporting consumable device components and surface chemistry teams in a variety of activities as needed.

    Responsibilities
    • Flowcell manufacturing, process development and assembly.
    • Facilitate senior engineers in SolidWorks design.
    • Dimensional and mechanical measurements, including data analysis and reporting.
    • Surface metrology and characterization.
    • Component testing, quality checks, and visual inspection.
    • Sample preparation for external analysis.
    • Component and subcomponent inventory management; shipping preparation and receiving.
    • In summary, this role will have a focus on supporting multiple engineering activities in a timely manner, to support the needs of the project as necessary.

    Qualifications and Skills
    • Associates or Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or related discipline from an accredited institution, 0-2 years of professional experience required, but hands-on lab experience is preferred.
    • Microfabrication, microfluidics and materials knowledge or experience is also a plus.
    • Excellence in familiarity with SolidWorks, Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets or equivalent required.
    • Familiarity with metrology or microscopy equipment is also a big plus.
