Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 2. The work will be done onsite in Lafayette, IN, with the potential to transition to a hybrid schedule after the first few months (minimum three days per week onsite). This is a long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $35/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to support the development, analysis, validation, and performance optimization of advanced engine systems used across a variety of industrial applications. This role will focus on engine performance development, calibration, simulation, testing, and troubleshooting while working within a cross-functional engineering environment. The engineer will contribute to product development efforts through system analysis, performance mapping, validation activities, and technical problem solving. This position offers the opportunity to work on complex engine technologies while collaborating with design, controls, validation, and product teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Develop and validate engine performance requirements to support product development objectives
• Perform engine calibration, performance mapping, testing, and analysis activities
• Conduct simulation and modeling of engine systems and subsystems to evaluate performance and support design decisions
• Investigate equipment and system issues, perform root cause analysis, and recommend corrective actions
• Collaborate with cross-functional engineering teams to support validation activities, design reviews, project planning, and product development initiatives
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Engineering Technology, or a related engineering discipline
• 2–4 years of engineering experience with internal combustion engines, engine performance development, or engine systems analysis
• Strong understanding of engine fundamentals, spark-ignited combustion, and system-level interactions
• Experience interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical documentation
• Experience with engineering analysis, simulation, testing, and problem-solving methodologies
• Strong analytical, communication, and teamwork skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with engine simulation, modeling, or analysis tools such as GT-Power
• Experience supporting engine validation, calibration, or performance testing in laboratory or field environments
• Familiarity with CAD software and engineering design tools
• Experience working with emissions, controls systems, or engine performance optimization
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver results in a fast-paced engineering environment
