About Silana
Here at silana we are building an automated garment assembly system that's redefining how apparel gets manufactured. We're a seed-stage robotics company headquartered in NYC, deploying our first system with a launch customer in Europe this summer. The next 12 months are the most important in our company's history, and we're growing the team to match.
The role
We're designing the next iteration of our assembly cell right now, and we need a technician who can take CAD drawings, wiring diagrams, and engineering intent, and turn them into a working machine on the floor. You'll work side-by-side with our mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers through the entire build-up: from frame assembly and component mounting, through electrical wiring and pneumatic plumbing, all the way to power-on, debug, and iteration.
You'll also own the physical flow of parts into our shop, receiving deliveries, checking what came in against what was ordered, organizing inventory so engineers can actually find things, and flagging when something's missing or wrong before it blocks a build.
This is a hands-on builder role. If you like seeing a machine come together from a pile of extrusion and a wiring schematic, you'll like this job.
What you'll do
Build & commissioning
Build up new cells from mechanical frame to fully wired, powered, and commissioned system
Support bring-up and debugging alongside engineering
Iterate on the cell as the design evolves. we're still actively changing things, and we need someone who can absorb design changes quickly without losing the plot
Shop & supply operations
Receive incoming deliveries: unpack, inspect, and check items against POs and packing slips
Flag damaged parts, short shipments, or wrong items immediately and coordinate with engineering on resolution
Organize and label inventory. components, fasteners, electrical hardware, tooling
Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly shop floor and storage areas
Help keep our BOMs and inventory records accurate as parts come in and get consumed
Surface low-stock issues before they become blockers
What we're looking for
3+ years of hands-on experience building, wiring, or maintaining industrial machinery, robotics cells, automated equipment, or similar
Comfortable reading mechanical drawings and electrical schematics
Solid electrical skills: panel wiring, ferrules, terminal blocks, 24V DC and 3-phase, sensor wiring, soldering and crimping
Mechanical fluency: hand tools, power tools, torque specs, alignment, basic machining or fabrication a plus
Experience with pneumatic systems
Genuinely enjoys the build phase of a project, the part where things don't fit, wires are short, and you have to figure it out
Bonus
Experience with garment, textile, or fabric-handling machinery, or the manufacturing and testing of other soft goods
Comfortable with collaborative robots
Familiarity with industrial control hardware, Beckhoff, Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or similar. Beckhoff/EtherCAT experience is a strong plus.
Vision system mounting and alignment (cameras, lighting)
Experience utilizing Arduino or ESP32 boards
What we offer
Direct, daily impact on a machine that ships to a real customer this summer
A small team where what you build matters and your name is on it
A real shop with real tools in NYC
Compensation: $60,000 - $70,000 (year) base salary
