Job Title: Mechanical Designer

Job Description

The Mechanical Designer performs mechanical and electro-mechanical design and drafting for new and existing products, with a strong focus on machine design and troubleshooting of mechanical systems. In this role, you collaborate closely with engineering teams to support product development, documentation, and design execution for complex systems such as cameras, transporters, lifts, and related devices.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems and components for cameras, transporters, lifts, and other devices, including mechanisms, housings, bearings, motors, gears, seals, and controls, in accordance with company and industry standards.
  • Create detailed 3D CAD models and engineering drawings with appropriate GD&T to support accurate and efficient manufacturing.
  • Assist in the design of new and existing products and prepare complete documentation packages for production release.
  • Support design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) activities, working with suppliers to refine designs for cost effectiveness, reliability, and compliance with internal drafting standards, formats, and drawing requirements.
  • Support research and development (R&D), new product development (NPD), and sustaining engineering activities through timely design updates and technical input.
  • Collaborate with peers and cross-functional engineering teams to drive tasks forward, resolve technical issues, and meet project milestones.
  • Track assigned work, manage task lists, and provide clear status updates to stakeholders.
  • Validate documentation for quality, accuracy, and manufacturability, ensuring that designs meet DFM considerations and internal standards.
  • Complete engineering change notices (ECNs) and initiate engineering change requests (ECRs) when required to manage design revisions.
  • Ensure that drawing updates and documentation changes follow established company procedures and standards.
  • Update and access the MRP/ERP system as needed for part number creation, bill of material structure maintenance, and related data management.

Essential Skills

  • Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience, with extensive machine design experience.
  • Experience in mechanical design for robotics, automation, AGVs, drones, and/or cameras.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks CAD software for creating models, drawings, and assemblies.
  • Working knowledge of GD&T and experience generating engineering documentation with proper tolerancing.
  • Hands-on machine design experience including power transmission, sealing solutions, and mechatronics packaging.
  • Familiarity with manufacturing processes such as machining, sheet metal forming, and casting.
  • Ability to work within established processes and structured team environments.
  • Ability to work cross‑functionally and communicate clearly with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office applications.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • CSWP (Certified SolidWorks Professional) certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of ASME Y14.100 drawing practices and ASME Y14.5 GD&T standards.
  • Ability to interpret and apply weld symbols and related drafting standards.
  • Experience with AutoCAD and Adobe Acrobat is desirable.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems such as IFS is a plus.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management systems such as PDM Pro is a plus.

Work Environment

You work in a collaborative engineering environment that emphasizes structured processes, clear documentation, and cross-functional communication. Daily activities involve extensive use of SolidWorks for 3D modeling and drafting, MS Office for documentation and reporting, and tools such as AutoCAD, Adobe Acrobat, ERP systems (e.g., IFS), and PLM systems (e.g., PDM Pro) for data and lifecycle management. The role supports R&D, new product development, and sustaining engineering, requiring close interaction with design, manufacturing, and supplier teams. The environment values adherence to industry standards such as ASME Y14.100 and Y14.5, and encourages continuous improvement in design for manufacturability and reliability.
