Mechanical Designer - Power Industry

Position Overview
We're a dynamic team of engineers and designers supporting a wide range of projects in the power sector. As a Mechanical Designer, you'll play a key role in developing detailed piping and mechanical equipment layouts and 3D models for power generation plants, carbon capture facilities, and other energy-related infrastructure.
You'll contribute to the design of systems such as:
- Steam cycle systems
- Boiler feed and condensate systems
- Water treatment
- Fuel handling
- Hydraulic and heat transfer systems
- Conveying systems
- Air and gas systems

Responsibilities
- Produce piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), layout plans, sections, and 3D models for various power plant systems.
- Design mechanical systems including rotating equipment, HVAC, compressed air and gas systems, and service water systems.
- Check design deliverables to ensure compliance with industry codes, project specifications, and internal standards.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure accuracy and constructability.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior designers or interns.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining high quality and accuracy.
- Identify and incorporate design changes as needed to meet budget and schedule goals.
- Attend and contribute to project meetings.
- Support project development and execution with a proactive, solution-oriented mindset.
Qualifications
- 4-10 years of experience in mechanical or piping design within the power generation, industrial, or oil & gas sectors.
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Drafting, Design, or related engineering field preferred. High school diploma or GED required.
- Proficiency in 3D modeling tools such as MicroStation, AutoCAD, Revit, Navisworks, SmartPlant3D, AutoCAD Plant 3D, or similar.
- Experience checking for design interferences and constructability in a 3D environment.
- Strong background in developing P&IDs, plot plans, and construction drawings.
- Able to work both independently and within a multidisciplinary team.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to manage time and priorities effectively.
