As a Ride & Show Senior Mechanical Designer, you would work closely with our Design & Engineering teams, line of business customers, outside vendors, and project management staff to support project specific requirements and create conceptual and production CAD designs, detail drawings, and other supporting documentation.

Responsibilities
You would join a collaborative team in an open environment as we partner closely with Engineering to develop innovative conceptual and production design packages in support of project requirements. We want your passion for providing CAD design layouts and detail drawings to support Engineering for capital and expense projects.
Every single day as a Ride & Show Senior Mechanical Designer is different! On any one day you might:
Work closely with Engineering to develop innovative conceptual and production design packages in support of project requirements. Provide CAD design layouts and detail drawings to support Engineering for capital and expense projects
Establish strategy for design development against schedule-driven technical milestones
Serve as primary mechanical lead for design, production, integration, and testing performed both by internal team and external vendors.
Review design package with vendors and shops for conformance with design documentation
Develop and participate in project design reviews
Perform research of background and historical data in support of identifying project requirements and developing design solutions
Research and select proper materials, processes, and vendors to be specified for design projects
Ensure that drawings comply with applicable codes, legislation, and regulatory requirements as well as both internal and industry standards, including state specific ride law
Review design packages with vendors and shops for conformance with design documentation
Work with Engineers and Document Management staff to ensure as-built drawings and other project documentation are properly detailed and submitted into the electronic data management system (EDMS) for archival and are subsequently properly updated
Stay abreast of new technologies and best practices regarding designs, materials, and products by sharing knowledge and lessons learned
Carry out routine work, with established procedures and instructions under immediate supervision
Complete redline drawings as directed by responsible Engineers
Teach and mentor our growing staff on all internal Disney system applications
Required Qualifications (Please apply if you have):
Five (5) or more years of design experience as a Designer or degreed Engineer in a design environment working in a multi discipline, technical, team setting
Outstanding "clean sheet " design sensibilities
Demonstrated proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD (professional training and/or certification) in both modeling and drawing creation; minimum of five (5) years of experience
Demonstrated experience with creating completed production drawing packages, configuration management, dimensioning and tolerancing, design of weldments, sheet metal design, material selection, fastening and joining, machine and fabrication shop practices, inspection, hydraulics and pneumatics, and machine repair practices
Solid engineering and mechanical design skills, including manufacturing practices and processes
Strong knowledge of materials (metals, composites, plastics), welding, finish processes, ASME standards (Y14 and Y14.5), and engineering documentation skills
Ability to lead sophisticated design, fabrication, and commissioning activities
Passion for understanding and maintaining design elements of park wide ride experiences, animatronic figures, and show mechanical equipment.
Additional passion for understanding and maintaining design elements of various transportation systems such as Steam Trains, Boats, Monorails and Buses.
Advanced understanding of machine assemblies and power systems and ability to effectively translate on to paper via CAD or physical drawings.
Proficiency in Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Demonstrated interpersonal, problem solving, analytical, time management, and organizational skills with the ability to effectively communicate to all levels of management including executive staff
Ability to work with minimum supervision on multiple projects as well as within a team in a high-paced environment, conferring with superiors on unusual matters
Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
Aptitude to quickly learn computer software packages
Additional Qualifications (It would be nice if you also have):
5+ years of experience in a theme park design environment
Reliability centered maintenance experience
Experience with EPLAN, PLM/SmarTeam systems, Navisworks BIM modeling
Required Education
Two (2) or more years of college (mechanical engineering or engineering technology courses) preferably with an Associates or higher-level degree, or equivalent work experience.
Preferred Education
" Four (4) or more years of college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited University
" Certified SolidWorks Professional (CSWP)
GD&T professional training and/or certification
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification or equivalent
Notes
" Requires a significant amount of time spent in a sitting position conducting CAD workstation operation.
" Required job duties are normally performed in a climate-controlled office environment, but some time shall be required to work after hours for gathering as-built documentation, capturing field conditions, and attraction testing, as required. This may include, but is not limited to, climbing stairs, ladders, crawling, and accessing confined spaces.
" Must be able to work a flexible schedule including overtime, nights, weekends, holidays, and variable shifts as required.
