We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Design Engineer with longwall mining experience to join our engineering team in Mount Vernon, Ohio.

This role is ideal for an engineer who understands longwall systems and wants to design equipment that directly supports underground mining operations. You'll work alongside experienced engineering and manufacturing professionals to develop custom mechanical solutions that improve reliability, maintainability, and safety.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop mechanical components and assemblies for longwall mining equipment.
• Create detailed 3D models and manufacturing drawings using Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
• Design fabricated structures, weldments, and sheet metal components for heavy industrial applications.
• Develop production drawings and manufacturing documentation.
• Support product development from concept through production.
• Collaborate with electrical engineers, manufacturing, purchasing, quality, and project management teams.
• Participate in design reviews and engineering change processes.
• Support prototype development, testing, and continuous product improvement.
• Provide technical assistance to production personnel during fabrication and assembly.
• Work directly with customers and internal stakeholders to develop engineered solutions.

Preferred Longwall Experience:

We're especially interested in candidates with experience designing, servicing, or supporting equipment such as:

• Powered Roof Supports (Shields)
• Armored Face Conveyors (AFC)
• Beam Stage Loaders (BSL)
• Crushers
• Pan Line Systems
• Longwall Electrical Equipment
• Hydraulic Systems
• Underground Mining Equipment
• Custom Mining Equipment
• Heavy Fabricated Structures

Experience with OEMs or suppliers serving the longwall mining industry is highly desirable.

Qualifications

Required

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering discipline, or equivalent engineering experience.
• Three or more years of mechanical design experience.
• Proficiency with Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar 3D CAD software.
• Experience creating manufacturing drawings and fabrication documentation.
• Strong understanding of machine design, mechanical systems, materials, and manufacturing processes.
• Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
• Ability to manage multiple engineering projects simultaneously.

Preferred

• Experience in underground coal mining or longwall mining operations.
• Knowledge of heavy equipment, structural weldments, hydraulic systems, and fabricated assemblies.
• Familiarity with mining industry standards and safety requirements.
• Experience supporting manufacturing and production environments.

Location & Travel

This is a full-time onsite position based in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Occasional travel to customer sites, manufacturing facilities, or field locations may be required.
