What to Expect
We are seeking a talented Mechanical Design Engineer to join our Structural Design team within the Battery Engineering organization in Palo Alto, CA. This role focuses on enhancing designs for current Tesla vehicles and defining structural designs for future models. Collaboration with factory-based colleagues and cross-functional teams will be essential to integrate vehicle and powertrain engineering, develop innovative processes, and advance safety and reliability standards in electric vehicles.
What You'll Do
- Improve designs for existing vehicles and define structural designs for future Tesla models
- Seamlessly integrate vehicle and battery cell systems to optimize performance
- Partner with manufacturing engineering teams to develop new processes and materials
- Serve as the local design authority for line launches, design changes, trials, and root-cause analysis
- Conduct on-site component and system-level testing to support design and specification updates
- Collaborate with manufacturing, process, and quality teams to address yield barriers and scrap issues
- Own product improvements focused on cost reduction and complexity simplification
What You'll Bring
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience
- Strong engineering fundamentals in materials and mechanics
- Demonstrated ability to identify problems and develop effective solutions
- Detail-oriented approach with solid documentation and reporting skills
- Strong experience in CAD modeling, with CATIA V5/3DX experience as a plus
- Prior experience in a relevant engineering field, ideally in high-volume manufacturing
- Proficiency in 3D design and GD&T drawings for complex parts and assemblies

Expected Compensation
$92,720 - $206,520/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
