Mechanical CAD Design Engineer — Bulk Material Handling Systems

Immediate opening. Picture your first week: you open Autodesk Inventor, translate a customer’s sketch into a clean model, and by day’s end your general arrangement is already on its way for client approval. The next morning, you’re collaborating with Sales on a spec change, then stepping onto the shop floor to help Production solve a fit-up issue. If that kind of variety motivates you, you’ll feel at home here.

What you’ll do

  • Transform concept sketches, markups, and verbal ideas into precise 3D models and drawings using Autodesk Inventor.
  • Own mechanical fit and stack-ups across assemblies to ensure components integrate seamlessly.
  • Produce fabrication drawings and complete, accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for manufacturing.
  • Review and interpret customer specifications to confirm compliance and capture requirements.
  • Issue drawing updates and revisions as projects evolve.
  • Prepare layout and general arrangement drawings for customer submittal and approval.
  • Coordinate with Sales on project needs and communicate design changes clearly.
  • Partner with Production to troubleshoot shop-floor problems and develop practical solutions.
  • Select mechanical components such as gearboxes, bearings, sensors, and gaskets that meet performance and cost targets.
  • Compile precise raw material lists to support fabrication and purchasing.
  • Run basic design calculations and choose appropriate materials for parts and weldments.
  • Improve designs with a focus on cost, manufacturability, and ease of assembly.
  • Modify legacy designs and contribute to new product development initiatives.
  • Engage with customers as needed to clarify requirements and present design intent.
  • Collaborate across functions to keep projects on schedule and within scope.

What you bring

  • 1+ year of hands-on Autodesk Inventor experience in sheet metal and part design environments.
  • Working knowledge of design fundamentals, strength/stress basics, and cost analysis.
  • Familiarity with common mechanical components and how they function in assemblies.
  • Understanding of core manufacturing processes and where to apply them.
  • Proficiency with tolerances, limits and fits, weld symbols, exploded views, and GD&T.
  • Background contributing to medium-to-large design/manufacturing projects involving engineering applications, structural calculations, and design analysis.
  • Exceptional attention to detail in drawings and technical writing—especially in a fast-paced setting.
  • Clear, professional communication skills and a collaborative, can-do mindset.

Preferred

  • Degree in engineering or a related discipline (preferred, not required).
  • Experience with bulk material handling equipment: screw conveyors, bucket elevators, belt conveyors, feeders, tubular drag conveyors, and similar systems.

Tools & technologies you’ll use

  • CAD: Autodesk Inventor, AutoCAD
  • 3D modeling: Autodesk Fusion 360, AutoCAD
  • 2D drawings: AutoCAD
  • Business systems: ERP & MRP platforms

If you thrive on turning rough ideas into build-ready designs—and enjoy partnering with Sales, Production, and customers to make it happen—this role offers immediate impact and growth.
