The duties include but are not limited to:

Assists School Bus Inspector, a certified State School Bus Mechanic, in gaining knowledge in order to comply with criteria set forth by the State Department of Education Pupil Transportation Division for State School Bus Mechanic Certification.

Assists certified State School Bus Mechanic with minor/major repairs or maintenance on all System vehicles to include but not limited to seats, glass, body, engine, transmission, drive train, and tires.

Performs diagnostics on vehicles utilizing computer-based programs as well as follow repair flow charts from printed diagnostic repair manuals.

Assists mechanics in emergency repair situations within time constraints and possesses the ability to anticipate tools and parts required for same.

Assists in completing work orders with accurate task descriptions required.

Submits daily reports to assigned Foreman for evaluation/training purposes in pursuit of State School Bus Mechanic Certification.

Drives bus routes in emergency situations.

Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Must be a high school graduate from a regionally accredited school or possess a GED certificate.

One (1) year of automotive/truck experience or trade school is preferred.

Must have a valid Alabama Drivers License.

Must be insurable as determined by an investigation by MCPSS personnel into private and business driving records within any consecutive three (3) year time frame and must complete a criminal history background check.

Must obtain an Alabama Commercial Drivers License and Alabama School Bus Drivers Certificate within six months from hire date.

Must be able to read and understand all written materials.

Must have all necessary general mechanics tools.

Duty Days: 260

Salary Range: From $41,248.00

Additional Job Information

Applicants selected for classified positions must undergo or have undergone an ABIFBI criminal history background check fingerprinting administered through sites selected and approved by the MCPSS and State of Alabama Education Department and be declared suitable and fit to teach under state law.

Applicants selected must also pass a drug-screening test via forms provided by Human Resources during the selection process.
