Job Summary
The Meat & Seafood Director will be responsible for modeling and promoting Sendik’s culture by supporting those who consistently provide “best in class” service to our guests. The Meat & Seafood Director will be in charge of Sendik's day-to-day Meat & Seafood department at the store level including, but not limited to evaluating financial performance, quality, vendor management and inventory levels specifically related to Meat & Seafood. As a part of Sendik's leadership team, the Meat & Seafood Director must demonstrate accountability, strong team management skills and hands-on involvement with the team.

Work Experience
Duties/Responsibilities
- Serve customers, associates, vendors and partners while modeling Sendik’s culture and providing “best in class” customer service
- Execute “go to market” strategies by creating and implementing strategic and functional merchandising plans which showcase products to meet customer needs and preferences and maximize profit dollars, while ensuring plans are executed consistently with established expectations
- Negotiate with multiple suppliers for favorable price, terms, quality and delivery using data and sales history to make effective purchasing decisions
- Forecast ad and regular item volume needs based on department plans and merchandising strategies including building weekly ads with the team
- Execute daily, weekly and seasonal Meat & Seafood strategies including proactively seeking out spot buys. Utilize commodity and category data to drive sales and reduce shrink
- Provide coaching to and build strong partnerships with store teams to ensure optimal Meat & Seafood department service and operations
- Adopting a continuous improvement mindset, proactively seek ways to improve upon existing Meat & Seafood Department procedures and processes
- Develop, modify and roll out new and seasonal “on trend” offerings to all locations
- Evaluate financial performance, pricing, production, shrink and inventory of the Meat & Seafood departments and collaborate with Meat & Seafood Department Managers to control costs and maximize profitability
- Assist with department preparations as needed, including, but not limited to, production schedule, customer service and resets
- Oversee Meat & Seafood production events; including, but not limited to, ordering product and supplies, retrieving labels, confirming staffing needs, tracking labor, calculating final costs and store distribution
- Ensure product quality and consistency is best in class for all commodities
- Partner with procurement to drive sales and profitability
- Conduct annual planning sessions with all vendor partners with follow up planning sessions as needed.
- Work with the marketing team to determine products to be included in the weekly ad
- Maintain knowledge of on-trend items, strategic initiatives and competitive landscapes
- Oversee the Meat & Seafood Merchandisers and store operations team
- Weekly travel to various store locations to visit Meat & Seafood departments, interact with associates and assist with department duties as needed
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or GED equivalent is required
- Minimum of 10 years of Meat & Seafood experience
- Minimum of 3 years of buying/merchandising experience required
- Strong knowledge of procurement, logistics and inventory management practices
- Strong knowledge of local and state health, sanitation and safety regulations and codes
- A strong customer service orientation focused on providing the best in quality and service
- Strong leadership and decision making skills
- Ability to sell, manage and drive growth
- Proficient in computer programs such as Word, Excel and Google Docs
- Strong communication and problem-solving skills
- Strong sense of security and ability to handle sensitive information
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent time management, prioritization and organization skills
- Ability to work at a fast paced and efficient manner
- Strong sense of team – ability to anticipate the needs of the team
