Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need to have:

  • Minimum Ability to handle stressful situations
  • Effective communication skills
  • Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
  • Desired Retail experience
  • Second language (speaking, reading and/or writing)

Responsibilities

As a Meat Department Associate, you will be responsible for:

  • Adhering to all local, state and federal laws, safety and food safety regulations and company guidelines.
  • Promoting trust and respect among associates.
  • Creating an environment that enables customers to feel welcome, important and appreciated by answering questions regarding products sold within the department and throughout the store.
  • Gaining and maintaining knowledge of products sold within the department and being able to respond to questions and make suggestions about products.
  • Informing customers of meat specials.
  • Providing customers with fresh/frozen products that they have ordered in the correct portion size (or as close as possible to the amount ordered) to prevent shrink.
  • Recommending meat and seafood items to customers to ensure they get the products they want and need.
  • Using all equipment in the meat department such as the refrigerators, freezers, slicers, and ovens according to Company guidelines.
  • Adequately preparing, packaging, labeling and inventorying ingredients in merchandise.
  • Checking product quality to ensure freshness.
  • Reviewing "sell by" dates and taking appropriate action.
  • Labeling, stocking and inventorying department merchandise.
  • Ensuring Country of Origin Labels are correct for all meat and seafood products.
  • Reporting product ordering/shipping discrepancies to the department manager.
  • Displaying a positive attitude and sense of urgency.
  • Staying current with present, future, seasonal and special ads.
  • Adhering to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
  • Ensuring proper temperatures in cases and coolers are maintained and temperature logs are maintained.
  • Reinforcing safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions and notifying store management.
  • Practicing preventive maintenance by properly inspecting equipment and notifying appropriate department or store manager of any items in need of repair.
  • Notifying management of customer or employee accidents.
  • Reporting all safety risks, issues, customer or employee accidents and illegal activity, including: robbery, theft or fraud.
  • Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.
