Main responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day operations and sales performance of the Meat Department
  • Schedule, supervise, train, and assign duties to meat cutters and clerks
  • Deliver high-quality customer service and build customer loyalty
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, including food safety, employee safety, and customer safety
  • Manage inventory processes including ordering, receiving, tracking, and monthly inventory counts
  • Maintain product quality by inspecting deliveries, rotating stock, culling cases, and removing expired items
  • Implement merchandising programs, pricing integrity, and promotional displays
  • Prepare meat products using equipment such as saws, grinders, and knives
  • Analyze reports to identify sales trends, opportunities, and operational improvements
  • Handle customer special orders and provide customized cuts

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of meat cutting, trimming, and preparation techniques
  • Understanding of different cuts of meat and product handling
  • Familiarity with food safety regulations and sanitation standards
  • Knowledge of retail operations, merchandising, and pricing practices
  • Basic computer skills for reports, communications, and inventory systems

Abilities:

  • Ability to operate meat processing equipment (saws, grinders, tenderizers, knives)
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to follow detailed procedures, policies, and safety guidelines
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance, including flexible scheduling (early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays)

Other requirements:

  • Prior experience in meat department operations and staff management preferred
  • Previous experience as a meat cutter, clerk, or wrapper
  • Ability to meet physical job demands (standing/walking continuously, lifting up to 35 lbs., frequent handling of products)
  • Compliance with company grooming, uniform, and conduct standards
  • Ability to work in a temperature-controlled environment with occasional outdoor exposure
