    Position Purpose

    The Meat Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Meat Department to ensure exceptional customer service, food safety compliance, sales growth, profitability, and team development. This position leads daily department operations, maintains merchandising standards, controls inventory and shrink, and creates a positive work environment that supports company goals and customer satisfaction.

    Key Responsibilities Department Operations

    • Direct and oversee daily Meat Department operations.
    • Ensure department readiness, product availability, and execution of company programs.
    • Maintain clean, organized, and safe sales floor, prep, storage, and backroom areas.
    • Monitor department conditions and take corrective action as needed.
    • Ensure adherence to all company policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

    Customer Service

    • Provide exceptional customer service and promote a customer-first culture.
    • Assist customers with product selection, special orders, and product knowledge questions.
    • Resolve customer concerns in a timely and professional manner.
    • Foster a welcoming shopping environment that encourages repeat business.

    Merchandising & Sales

    • Plan and execute product displays, features, and promotional activities.
    • Ensure proper product rotation, freshness, pricing, and signage accuracy.
    • Maintain department presentation standards that drive sales and customer engagement.
    • Analyze sales trends and implement strategies to achieve sales and profit goals.

    Inventory & Shrink Control

    • Manage inventory levels to support sales demand while minimizing excess stock.
    • Order products according to department needs and sales forecasts.
    • Monitor and control shrink through proper handling, rotation, and inventory practices.
    • Conduct inventory counts and maintain accurate department records.

    Food Safety & Sanitation

    • Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations.
    • Maintain proper temperature controls, storage procedures, and product quality standards.
    • Monitor department sanitation schedules and corrective action plans.
    • Train employees on food safety and sanitation requirements.

    Leadership & Team Development

    • Recruit, train, coach, and develop department employees.
    • Provide ongoing performance feedback and accountability.
    • Create work schedules that align labor needs with business demands.
    • Promote teamwork, engagement, and a positive workplace culture.
    • Support succession planning and employee growth opportunities.

    Financial Accountability

    • Manage department expenses, labor costs, and operating budgets.
    • Review performance metrics and implement action plans to improve results.
    • Meet or exceed sales, gross profit, shrink, and labor goals.
    • Identify opportunities for increased productivity and operational efficiency.

    Qualifications

    • High school diploma or equivalent required.
    • Previous retail meat department experience required.
    • Prior leadership or supervisory experience preferred.
    • Strong knowledge of meat products, cutting standards, food safety, and merchandising practices.
    • Strong communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
    • Ability to lead and motivate a team in a fast-paced environment.
    • Basic computer and reporting skills.

    Physical Requirements

    • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
    • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of products up to company standards.
    • Ability to work in refrigerated and freezer environments.
    • Frequent bending, reaching, twisting, and repetitive hand movements.
    • Ability to operate department equipment safely and effectively.
