Position Information
Position Title McNair & CSTEP Program Counselor FLSA Non-Exempt Primary Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of CSTEP and the McNair Scholars Program, the Program Counselor will collaborate with students, faculty and alumni mentors and role models, and community partners to provide opportunities to participate in career preparation activities, including exploring all facets of the graduate school application process. CSTEP services lead to employment and/or graduate level study in science, technology, math, and engineering (STEM) professions, the New York State licensed professions, and health-related fields. McNair Scholars participate in mentored research-intensive experiences, graduate school visits and workshops, and professional conferences. McNair services are designed to inspire students and support them in pursuing the post-baccalaureate study towards a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in their chosen field of interest.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Primary responsibilities are 1) to recruit program scholars and assist to maintain the required minimum participation enrollment, 2) plan and execute an annual schedule of program seminars and events, and instruct workshops on a weekly basis, 3) ensure each participant completes an individualized educational/professional plan, and 4) assist students with internship and service-learning experience applications. Specifically, the Program Counselor will advertise and facilitate activities, instruct weekly workshops, collaborate to plan events related to student recruitment timelines and implementation, academic success, service-learning, scholar research skill development, and post-baccalaureate planning, while achieving program required activities and objectives. This position is subject to the availability of funding. Federal and NY State funders review project performance to determine program continuation status on a yearly basis. Average 30 weekly hours.
